Day 67:) Did you validate your assumptions?
“Don’t judge a book by its cover” you may have heard this idiom. Still sometimes we are attracted or distracted to a book because of its title or cover. That’s the way we are now. Though, we can change if we act proactively. We can glance through the first few pages and can understand whether it suits our taste. Maybe you can come up with a better technique give it a thought. Do share your thoughts.
Coming back to the topic. Most of us have some supposition about people, without even interacting with the person. We presume based on listening to our friends or just by observing. Aren’t even judging the person, as we judge book. I had such an instance where my presumption turned out to be totally opposite. One of my batchmates, Bob*, is considered unhelpful and arrogant. Very few people even tried to know him. I recently had the opportunity to converse. He turns out to be awesome cheerful person, who is always out there to put forward his helping. He is loving and sweet. I felt dejected for my prior thoughts and never attempted to validate them. Fortunately, we are good friends now. Having no opinion is better than having a false one.
You too might have assumed something about someone. Give it a shot to ratify, maybe it turns the other way and you become besties. Our brain is a neuron model. It can make mistakes. However, if we don’t rectify, we are encouraging it for more blunders. Life is too short to repeat the mistake.
To quote, Isaac Asimov, American author, “Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in.”
