Thanks for your great reply! Your points make a lot of sense, and refueling stations definitely seem spot on. It seems natural to start with a refueling station in Earth's orbit, and then using the capabilities this provides, start moving out to other asteroids and planetary bodies to replicate similar "gas stations". What would be truly incredible is if these stations could also serve as light sources for solar sails. If one could launch a vessel Mars, Ceres, etc. using an earth orbiting laser array, and then slow it down at its destination using an orbiting station there, it seems we could truly have rapid interplanetary transport.
