A Neptune Full Moon and Mercury Stationing Direct: Settling into the Vision
Tuesday night we will have a full moon conjunct Neptune, in the Sidereal constellation of Aquarius and in the Vedic Nakshatra of Shatabhisha. Meanwhile, Mercury is stationing direct right on last month’s Solar Eclipse Point, right as Mars has caught up to it to make a conjunction.
To set the stage for this full moon, we might go back to Mid-June, when Neptune first stationed retrograde. Traditionally, outer planets are thought to represent large, collective constellations of energy. Their slow movements have been shown to shape historical trends (check out Cosmos and Psyche by Richard Tarnas), and in the life of the individual, they come through as something nearly outside, bigger, or deeper than the regular, waking consciousness.
Neptune stationing retrograde on June 16th signified the start of a slow reworking of the spiritualized or dream-like function of the mind. Neptune, who is the ruler of Pisces, most directly serves to dissolve our boundaries and place us within a larger field of awareness. Neptune was the god of the Ocean—likewise, strongly placed Neptunes correlate to a rich inner/contemplative life, an attraction to the mythological, to movies and music, as well as to substances which dissolve our normal states of consciousness.
Thus, during the few days surrounding this Full Moon, we might be expecting a somewhat dramatic encounter with this element of our life.
Some things you might look for:
-A large dissolution of boundaries.
-An influx of forgotten energies.
-Disillusionment with some glamorous figure.
-The re-enchantment of something previously dormant.
-A draw back towards ancestral practices and mythologies.
-The demystification of something previously incomprehensible.
-An urge to experience or ground yourself in something larger than the mundane world.
-A sense that a fundamental feeling or idea of reality itself is shifting.
-Waking up from one dream into another.
Interestingly, Mercury was in an opposition with this Neptune when it stationed retrograde on August 12th. I mentioned in that horoscope that it might feel like some leaked message or subtle perception was what sent Mercury backward in the sky as if we were being sent to stew over some glimpse of the dream realm. As Mercury is stationing on the point at which the total solar eclipse happened, on August 21st, we can draw a line between this otherworldly communique and the powerful internal recalibration from the eclipse.
Right now we might expect that whatever story or vision that has been unfolding is now starting to click into place. With Mars conjunct Mercury, there might be a desire to start doing something with it, to jump into some quick, clear action. Mars is an activating force, a physical fire that animates his surroundings wherever he goes. Mercury will take another week and a half to catch up to this impulse, though, before speeding past Mars at the end of next week. This will be the preamble to the big Mars/Venus conjunction at the start of October, the conclusion of a story that goes back to February when the two almost met.
While Mars and Mercury are dancing together, we might contemplate how we can work cohesively with Mars and Mercury, who were also together at the end of June. Things to look for with Mars conjunct Mercury:
-Moving fast and learning quickly.
-Debates and arguments.
-Saying something too soon, or with too much force.
-A keen wit or a quick tongue.
-Passionate analysis and discernment.
-Expressing something courageously.
-Dexterity and technical ability.
-An appetite for a lot of information.
