Part 2 of 5 about 'The Elements in Astrology' next post will be about The Earth Element.

Fire – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius (Intuitive)

In the psychological typology of Carl Jung, the Fire Element corresponds to the Intuition function and to a way of knowing, seeing and penetrating reality without being trapped by its external and formal aspects. It is through Intuition that we approach the essence of a situation, its possibilities, its meaning in a wider context. Intuit is a creative process, which puts in the object as much as it takes away from it.

The element Fire in astrology represents action, impetus, and creativity, being the fuel of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. It is considered hot and dry. It has a radiant scope, symbolizes expansion, warmth, light, courage, will to fight, to dominate and conquer, but also favors spiritual elevation, extreme lucidity, and purification of the soul. In Humans, it represents the superconscious mind. The symbol of the Fire element is a triangle pointing upwards, representing the desire to rise because of its warm and dry qualities.

Fire is associated with pure Spirit, idealism, faith, the enthusiasm with which we fall in love with life, the intensity with which we seek to expand in infinite possibilities and directions. It is the pure pleasure of expansion in search of meaning. That is why depression equals lack of Fire. When we are depressed, we do not have the enthusiasm to act, we do not find a meaning for the experiences, we prefer to be quiet and in our dark corner. But when the Fire is excessive or misdirected, it can ‘burn’ or scorch everything around, excessive enthusiasm and disregard for the ‘psychological space’ of others.

The Fire Element (in abundance)

People with an abundance of the fire element tend to be more optimistic, idealistic, dynamic, ardent, passionate, enthusiastic, direct, spontaneous, naive, expansive, with more inspiration, motivation, courage to take risks and take on challenges. They usually demonstrate energy, determination, ardor, perseverance, and may like to command rather than obey. All this disposition can bring more agitation and impulsiveness.

The Fire Element (out-of-control)

An out-of-control fire, for example, can be very dangerous, since the other side of energy tends to have a certain lack of tact, excessive ambition, being violent, angry, authoritarian and aggressive – physically or verbally. They can be a bit insensitive and indifferent, sometimes selfish and arrogant as well. In anger, they tend to hurt others, but usually, do not hold a grudge. The Fire Signs – Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius – have in common vitality, spontaneity, the joy of living and an almost childish trust in destiny. Who does not have much Fire and is, therefore, more tranquil, pragmatic or ‘rational’, is angry or haunted by how this Element plays with money, time, emotion, energy and even with people.

Notes:

Always think of Fire as something more ardent, idealistic and abstract, an energy that influences creativity, new ideas, encourages adventure, propels action and our artistic side. Warming, living the present, turning the page of the situation, showing that life is good and surpassing themselves are themes always present in their elementary primer.
