BIRTHDAY LANGUAGE: THE FOUR ELEMENTS: EARTH
INTRODUCTION
The following is a reference guide to the "Personology Profiles" for each day of the year for the upcoming series "Birthday Language" that will be posted once a day for one whole year. A link to THIS post will be presented in every future post relating to the day of each "Birthday Language: insert date here" post, here on SteemIt.
EARTH: TAURUS, VIRGO, CAPRICORN
Earth is the solid element. As such it has many related associations and meanings. Earth is of course the third planet from sun in our solar system, the planet on which mankind lives (among other things). In this respect it also houses the world of Nature, as in term "Mother Earth." More specifically, earth is also the land mass of the world as distinguished from the oceans and the atmosphere. Another meaning of earth is our everyday world as apposed to other hypothetical worlds such as heaven and hell, or realm of worldly activities vs spiritual ones.
The "earth" in British English is what Americans call the "ground" i.e., the wire in an electrical system used to conduct electricity to position of 0 (zero) potential. The valuable growing substance, topsoil, is sometimes referred to as earth also. Finally, earth can mean humanity as a whole; therefore those aspects of people which are most natural, down-to-earth, or even crude (to some), are referred to as "earthy."
As one of the four elements, earth's nature fosters many of the above associations. It is highly stable element and resistance to change. It does, however, contain many different minerals and compounds, and can be of widely varying character and composition from one place to another. It mixes well with two of the other elements, air, water, to make good growing soil. In fact, given the proper drainage conditions, large quantities of both air and water mixed in with earth are essential for all plant life. Earth is generally an athematic to the fourth element, fire.
EARTH SIGNS
The earth-sign symbols (goat, bull, virgin) are decidedly oriented toward the physical plane and denote sexuality or lack of it. Each emphasizes different aspects of this orientation, according to its quality, ruler, etc.
The cardinal earth sign Capricorn, represents earth in its purest and most basic form. Body and material-oriented, Capricorn takes an active interest in the world of objects, money, sex, and solid symbols of power. However, there are many aspects of Capricorn, so much so that perhaps none may be said to be typical. Capricorn is aesthetic, but also spiritual; technical and practical, but also theoretical.
The fixed earth sign, Taurus, represents the immovable element in element in human nature. Taurus is typically stubburn and hard to convince, refusing to budge on many issues; however, it also desires harmony and so is not completely intractable. Taurus also displays procreative and nurturing charecteristics symbolized by Demeter, Gaia, Mother Earth, or Mother Nature. Evidencing a great love for sensuous beauty, Taurus emphasizes the earthier aspects of it's ruler Venus. Many Taurus values could be called "deeply human".
The mutable earth sign, Virgo, is perhaps less overtly physical than the other earth signs, more flexible and mentally oriented through the influence of its speedy ruler, Mercury. Virgo is quick and analytic, qualities which seem to be at variance with other earth characteristics. However, Virgos are also highly dependable, service-oriented and stable. Deep sensuous desires may be revealed in more secretive and selective ways. Pragmatic to the extreme, Virgo judges events by results.
THE EARTH-SIGN PERSONALITY
Earth-Sign people apprehend the world primarily through the sensation mode. Since their orientation is so decidedly empirical, they tend to judge the quality of things through their senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. Tangible realities have more meaning to them than dreams and fantasies. Earth-sign people are pragmatists and workers who believe that " what you see is what you get."
Although what is here and now may be said to be the focus of earth sign people, they also have a great capacity to wait and to ensure. By excercising the "long breath" in adversial or outright combative situations, they are able to choose the right moment o strike with full force. However, they may also fail into patterns of procrastination. Thus their patience, a true strength, may prove to be a weakness if it becomes an excuse for non-action.
Earth sign people enjoy the pleasures of the table and bed, whether for reasons of sensuality, repose or both. Their demands in those areas are usually unambiguous. Physical needs in general are generally given a higher priority by them, whether expressed in sports, sexuality, culinary pursuits, childbearing and rearing or manual labor.
Generally more sensual than passionate, earth-sign people enjoy physical contact and often have a well-developed tactical sense. Many like to work with their hands and are self-sufficient types who would prefer not to ask for help. They may also have trouble accepting help, however, because they feel it easier to do things themselves without a lot of verbal to-do.
Though earth-sign people can be known as blunt, slow-moving or conservative, they are incisive and economical in their use of time, and generally avoid having to do things twice. Thus, like the tortoise who beat the hare, they may wind up crossing the finish line first.
