According to vedic astrology, Mars and Ketu will be coming together in conjunction on May 2, 2018 in the movable sign of responsibility, resourcefulness, and hard work - Capricorn. This transit is supposed to be one of the biggest astrological events of 2018, as Mars is exalted in Capricorn giving it extreme fire power and strength. This transit of Mars with Ketu will be the perfect time to tap into the courageous warrior energy made available to us now, using it to face any personal challenges you have been working hard to overcome. Our spiritual practices will become more solidified and disciplined as this is the kind of energy that will allow you to reach heights you have been working towards. Victory will be with those who have been consistent in seriously applying themselves with super responsible Saturn ruling Capricorn. Conjoining Ketu puts this fiery Mars into the ever-churning energy of the nodal axis, bringing explosively karmic events to the forefront.
Expect the unexpected...
Since Mars will be retrograde starting June 26, 2018 it will be occupying Capricorn for a total of 6 months. Usually Mars transits a sign for about 6 weeks, so this energy will make us feel as if we are being tested and challenged to repeatedly do the right thing, remaining in a state of extreme discipline until early November. It should prove to be an exciting time full of surprising twists and turns with Mars crossing over Ketu three times during it's transit of Capricorn. Expect sudden reversals. Exact conjunctions of Ketu and Mars will occur on June 13-15, July 15-19, and September 19-22 this year. These will be the most volatile points in the transit of this conjunction, especially July 15-19 as Mars will be retrograde, severely degrading it's exaltation power. Mars will be struggling at that time to continue applying disciplined action as Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, which brings the need to work through things and to take the time to do the work. We might feel quite helpless when Mars goes retrograde, not knowing what actions to take. This will make us pause for some inner reflection as we reassess what we are going to do moving forward. Mars will leave retrograde on August 27th, 2018.

"What energy is this conjunction bringing to us?"
Jera is a rune that signifies a harvest and relates to the ever-changing cycles of life. This rune heralds a time of reaping and rewards, yet reminds us that these times are only as temporary as the seasons of the year that constantly cycle and change. It beckons us to remember that due to the cyclical nature of life, leaner times might be on the horizon. It seems like something is coming to a close so that a new experience can commence.
So I grabbed my trusty Wild Unknown tarot deck and asked,

It all came together when I saw the above cards, we are headed for a crash of sorts happening out of the blue. Where we found security and stability in the past will now seem compromised, leaving us with volatile emotions as we seek out peace from the shock and emotional upheaval created. Swans carry with them the energy of transformation, beauty, and grace so expect that some necessary changes will need to be made to break up any monotony, eradicate stagnancy, and bring more movement and beauty into your world.
"How can we best react to what is going to happen during this transit of the Mars and Ketu conjunction?"
This situation calls for us to be strong as we see the stag here turning to focus his gaze on stability, illumination, and completion. Something is definitely coming to an end here, a cycle will be completed. The stag possesses a divine power to enhance new beginnings or new ventures, bringing dignity, power, and integrity to any undertaking. It will be time to stand tall and be seen while turning away from the darkness and devastation that the crash created behind us. The stag is reminding us to fix our focus on where we are going and what we want, not on the darkness of the past. I love how the dark versus light reference here makes it super easy to see that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel, if only we turn to look towards it. This is a great reminder of the power we have in where we fix our focus, empowerment through personal choice, and the freedom to decide who we are going to be in this sudden shake up we experience.
"What is the gift and the challenge of this 6 month conjunction?"
The son of swords represents the gift and the ace of swords is the challenge. Laser sharp focus and attention will be developed during the transiting of this Mars-Ketu conjunction. This will be a period where we are refining our ability to see situations for what they truly are. Owls have a well known reputation for being able to see the slightest details of movement in the dark, and are said to possess a wealth of knowledge through the power of their insight. We see the owl flying swiftly through the air (the realm of thought) with a weapon that looks like a mini-sword (clarity of thought and reason). And what do swords do? They cut things off of course... things that we feel no longer serve us. We will surely be looking out for ourselves during this time, embodying self love and self care. These are but some of the beautiful gifts that this conjunction brings.
The challenge we face is also that one lone sword - razor sharp insight and necessary clarity of what we have to do. With the infusion of naga snake energy, it is clear this is a karmic situation that we must go through. When karmic influences are at hand like this, I find free will is diminished so you might feel that you have no power or choice over what is happening and what you have to do. There is a big decision coming to us that we must be courageous in facing, something or someone we must sever or cut ties with. We will feel as if we have arrived at a huge decision unexpectedly and now it is all of the sudden time to execute that decision with courage and conviction. The truth will be clear and what needs to be done will be as well but it will feel quite heavy and out of your hands, as there is really no way to change the situation to avoid this path. The only way out is through.
