Arecibo Says Goodbye Forever...

Today, the 900 ton instrument cluster finally came crashing down as it collapsed down on to the dish below, bringing an end to what was the largest radio telescope in the world (until 2017).

The Arecibo telescope in Puerto Rico received first light on November 1, 1963 and was officially decommissioned on November 19, 2020 due to damage that was next to impossible to repair without major risk to human life.
