Ko samui part 2 - the accident

in #atv6 years ago (edited)

So decided to do something different on my second and last day at samui and arranged the day before an ATV trip through the israeli "lametayel" agency.

Its not cheap but for 2200 baht you get to drive an atv bike for 2.5 hours and get to see alot of views along the way including the big budha and one really nice observation point.

The guy at the agency told me that it is considered an extreme activity but it really isnt so much and its the normal course that fits for beginners , plus he is an israeli right? One of us, so i got convinced and boy was i wrong.

When we started the trip everything seemed cool. I have en electric bike at home and it feels quite similar once u get the hang of it. I did felt that my bike has a tendency to turn to the left even when i go straight but the guide said its ok because of the shape of the ground or something so i accepted it and went along. As long as the road was nice and smooth it was handlable and quite fun.

After half hour drive we stopped at this nice observation spot

There was an interesting mist in the air. We sat and talked for a while and continued our journey not before i had the guide to take a look on my bike to see if everything ok and he did took a look and even opened the atv compartment to check and told me its ok.

As we continued the road started to be a mess. No more nice and slick, only choppy road with holes everywhere. I've managed to overcome at first as the guide tells you to press slowly on the gas and follow his path but i started to get a bad feeling. I tought at first that this is just a section where the road is choppy and after a while it will be straight again but it didnt, it only got worse and every messed up road with rocks i've passed i was thanking god. Until half way through the trip when i got to a really hard part with a road so messed up that you cant tell which route is best and i did a bad move and pressed the gas too much ( i can barely remember) and the atv was in angle that forced me to fell from it on the ground preety hard, but nothing broke. What happend next is the atv was hanging sideways and then started to roll at my direction! On the last second ive managed to evade being smooshed by it, its a hugh machine!

Now i was hurting in my tail bone where i fell and had scratches everywhere espcially in my right hand, i was bleeding. They asked me if i wanted to continue driving by my self and i laughed and told them "yeah right! Ive had enough" and went the rest of the trip at the back side of one of the guides (there were many)

We did stopped to see the big budhaa but i wasnt feeling it any more and wanted to go back

Not so bad i know after taking care of the cuts but it could have been much worse, i was lucky as im not the only one who fell (this other guy fell in a better way which didnt hurt him like me)

The moral of the story? Dont do atv in thailand i guess hehe, i heard in mexico is much safer road.

Cryptomaniac out
