Physical Audio Cables (From mic spam, to listening music from phone to pc)

in #audio7 years ago

VAC, or Virtual Audio Cables is pretty much the dominate force for Mic Spamming on games (e.g. playing music into Discord, TS, Skype, or most commonly a game such as PUBG or CS:GO) but.. I am here to talk about something way underrated.. Physical audio cables. How do I use those? Well,

Are you using a device with a headphone usually in it?
Buy a USB to 3.5mm audio connector. Get one with mic/audio input output. Take an AUX cable, and plug it into both ports. Loopedy-looped. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=usb+to+headphone&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ausb+to+headphone (Aim for dongles)

Are you using a device with only 1 audio jack?
Then you probably know to just buy a simple splitter for Headphone jack. They're pretty cheap. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=audio+splitter

Next, just buy an AUX cable (a good one on Amazon/Ebay [Or from China such as AliExpress or GearBest I suppose) are pretty cheap. $5 Will get you pretty neato cable-o.

Next.. Lets take the matter of repeating the audio. For windows, you can use the VAC audio repeater. The reason I say this, but not to use VAC drivers is as follows:

  • VAC Drivers have this little Audio "watermark" if you don't spend a lot on it. This is cheaper, despite using physical hardware

  • VAC Drivers can cause lag inbetween when the audio is played. The repeater will cause some lag, but in the end it is less. Toss the repeat on realtime, and while it isn't perfect it is hella bettah.

Windows:
So what you're gonna wanna do is download the VAC bundle from Here You're going to go ahead and open it up in either windows explorer if you're using a version that supports (win 8 and 10 I believe) ZIP archives. If not, go ahead and download something like BandiZip (Links in the bottom), PeaZip, 7Zip, or WinRAR. Now go into either x64 or x86 (x64 should work on both 32bit and 64bit platforms, so for good measure you can just use it) and [optionally] extract audiorepeater.exe(or it may just appear as audiorepeater to you). Don't even bother touching audiorepeater_ks.exe. I'd move it to somewhere useful like you're desktop or a folder you know (like Documents, or Music if it is gonna be used for Music).

Download something like FooBar that can play sounds (on hotkey too) and configure it to play to LineOut. Then you can play from foobar, and set your default audio device to LineIn. You can repeat your voice over it if you want by sending your mic input to LineOut.
Or:
If you are wanting to play audio from another device, then go ahead and plug it into that devices' audio out. Then toss the other AUX end into the Line-In on the PC (Linux Counts!) [Or mac. Eww.] Then pipe it to your headphones with an audio repeat (or you're mic). Then, if you want to mic spam it toss in another adapter and connect the two up. Then repeat it to one of those Lines.
*If you are a little confused, then just take a second to think how you can achieve your goal having with Audio repeated to the output that goes to the input only repeating Inputs-->Output.

Mac:
I'm sure you got an audio repeater somewhere.. But.. I don't like apple, mac.

Linux:
You guys are smart, (I am one of yalls part of the time) you can google your problems. Here I'll get you started:
