Scan this image to see my augmented reality business card! The program I used was ZapWorks and they are augmenting everything all around us.

You can download the app at Zappar.com

This was so fun to make and evidently knocks QR codes out of the water.

According to their claims:

QR Code Vs ZapCode
rip_qr.png

  1. The minimum recommended size for a QR code to scan is 1.5cm. A zapcode can be half that size.

  2. QR codes need a safe area around the code. Zapcodes don’t require any safe area and can come in a variety of shapes to sit aesthetically with an image.

  3. QR codes generally have to be scanned straight on. Zapcodes can be scanned at an angle.

  4. Zapcodes scan faster than QR codes and from greater distances (at least twice the distance of a QR code).

  5. QR codes simply link through to a single web page. Zapcodes offer multiple rich media experiences in the field of vision (including video, audio, 3D animation, interaction, photo features as well as weblinks) that can be updated in real time.

  6. The web pages that back QR codes require coding and maintenance. ZapWorks system does not require any particular technical skills to create a zapcode.

  7. QR codes require hosting as an additional requirement. Zapcodes are fully hosted by Zappar’s server infrastructure.

  8. QR codes come with no data analytics. Zapcodes offer a full, integrated, data dashboard accessible online at any time.

  9. The majority of QR codes are scanned only once. On average a zapcode is zapped 4 times with a dwell time of 70 seconds per Zap.

  10. Most importantly, zapcodes are fun – QR codes are simply boring. Seriously, have you ever heard anyone say, ‘Check out this QR code!’

Zap.works is the program I used. It's very intuitive and makes me wonder why everyone isn't doing it!
