Next I want to show you an abandoned house in the neighbourhood where I grew up, in Maracaibo-Venezuela. This house has 5 years that is not inhabited. Although it can be thought that it is a common house, the experiences that occurred in it and its surroundings are still alive in my memory. Let´s go back to the eighties, when I was 8 years old. In this house lived the Barrios family, constituted by the father, mother and their 2 sons. They were known to be a very cooperative and respectful family, and to have a house very well endowed and orderly. In its time of fullness, this house was the meeting place of all the kids on the block. We were about 12 children that every afternoon we sat in the front of the house, sheltered by the shadow of the two trees that were in the front, to plan our games. Elkin, who was the youngest son who lived there, was my best friend in childhood. We played inside and outside the house, almost daily, nothing stopped us to run and hide anywhere.

This family moved to the beginning of the nineties, and rented the house. Since that time, this house has never been the same again. It lost its shine and stopped being the center of attention of the neighborhood kids. As you can see in the photo, only a lot of garbage remains inside the house, and of the trees that provided us shade, only the bare stems have been left. Windows and broken doors are displayed, not to mention the internal disaster in which it finds itself. Families came and went from that rented house, but nobody stayed for long. Finally, the house was sold to the mayor's office and turned into a house for the care of abandoned children, but that did not serve to revive the essence of this dwelling. I think that this house had its own life that was given to it by the Barrios family, and, when they left, they took with them the soul of this house
