Adjusting the Fur Babies to the Human Baby

in #baby7 years ago

So, as I stated in my introductory post; my wife and I are expecting our first child here very soon. Our little girl is due in less than two months (and I couldn't be more excited). The nursery is almost complete, car seat is in the car, family members are ready to fly in at a moments notice. We seem to be about as close to "ready" as we can be. But there is one thing we are a little anxious about; bringing our little one home to our 3 fur babies. My wife and I are very much animal people. She worked in animal rescue for years (and will still stop the car any moment to help a turtle cross the road, or a dog find its owner), and I have just always loved animals. So naturally when we got married almost 4 years ago, shortly after we adopted our cat, Kai, and he's awesome. Probably 11 months later we adopted our dog, Spader, who is also awesome, and quite cuddly (for a 75-pound lab). Lastly, after we bought our home last year, we adopted our newest fur baby, Kasha, who is just about a year old now; she is also awesome, though she can be quite sassy and spunky.

Anyway, now you know the back story of my three fur children. Now, as I mentioned, we are anxious to help in the adapting process between our little girl and our pets; hopefully making the process as smooth as possible. There have been tips we have heard here and there such as bringing home her receiving blanket from the hospital (after it smells like mommy and baby), and introducing our pup to her that first time calmly, happily and slowly. But I was hoping to get some insight from people who have been through this, so that this can be more an area of excitement versus anxiety. Please leave me some tips, stories from experience, anything you have. This is a chapter we have been anxiously awaiting, and I don't want anything to take away from our joy.

Thanks!
