BANGLADESH MY LOVE.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh was once a part of India and more recently a part of Pakistan. It is now independent. The land is formed from a very fine type of earth, called ‘silt’. It is carried by the three great rivers (the Ganges, the Brahmaputra and the Meghna). This land is called a delta.
Many people live in houses with stilts or ‘legs’. This is because flooding is very common and so houses need to be raised off the ground. Some flooding is needed so that the country’s main crops, rice and jute, get enough water.
Bangladeshi artists are very skilled in weaving, pottery and modelling with terracotta.
A typical Bangladeshi meal might be lamb with vegetables, cooked in a spicy sauce, with yellow lentils and rice.
