Hike for the soul : A trek to Marian Hill
It's been a while since I last posted here on Steemit. Got so much things to do at work and studies. And since I've got time now, let me update you on something I've done the past months.
During holy weeks, my family and I would always spend the holidays usually at home or at church. Well, we are a typical catholic family spending these days for praying and devotion to God. This year, we spent the holy week (actually Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday only) at our house in Rizal. In here, we got a chance to trek Marian Hill at Binangonan Rizal as a family.
So this post features Marian Hill and how I've spent my Good Friday hiking with my family. :)
Marian Hill is a worship place built in a 1-hectare private property located on top of a hill at Binangonan, Rizal. It is a sacred place of prayer, peace, and solitude.
Hiking through the rugged terrain, natural rock formations and centuries old trees abode the place. The hill is actually high enough to be able to get a glimpse of the Pililia Wind Mills and Metro Manila Skyscrapers.
The Morning Hike
So to be able to reach the top of the Marian Hill before noon, we started our hike at 5:30am. It was a bit cold since big trees surround the route. The steepness of the slope is also part of the challenge. However, being on top of the hill gives you a scenic view that complaining about the hike is not an option. Look at how lucky I was to see the beauty of this Good Friday morning.
This from our morning hike to Marian Hill is priceless.
The Way of the Cross
Following the route to the top includes the stopping at the stations of the Way of the Cross. Not just taking a rest from walking, but these stop overs are meant to let the devotees offer a prayer on each cross commemorating the last day of Jesus Christ on Earth. There were a total of 14 stations distributed along the whole track up to the top.
This is one of the stations of the way of the cross.
The Sanctuary of God's Divine Love
After braving the hike for an more than 3 hours of walking and praying, we've reached the top of the hill. There stands a chapel for praying, sanctuaries, and gardens for the devotees to offer a prayer and reflect on things. The place is so calming, with trees giving shade, the wind blowing smoothly chilling your tired body, and prayers surrounding the whole place.
These are some of the pictures I've taken in the garden and sanctuary.

Braving the tedious hike was very tiring. But the thing is, this was nothing compared to the sacrifices Jesus made to save us. Whether Catholic or not, the tedious hike towards Marian Hill made me realize that all things good and vibrant are worth the pain and effort. In life, challenges do come and try to tear us. But take heart, and brave every obstacle for what lies ahead are the things that make life worth living.
'Til next time! ;)
PS. All photos are captured and edited by me.
Thinking about splurging on a more professional camera, what are you using?
For this post, I used my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy J7) since my canon dslr is quite heavy to carry. :)
