Old Hair Fairy

in #beautiful7 years ago

Once upon a time, I had long locks of thick brunette and blonde hair. It made me feel empowered and beautiful. I began relying on my hair for that self-esteem and found myself reluctant to feel happy with myself if I was having a bad hair day.
Eventually, I gave up and put it in a bun everyday so that my hair did not have control of me. Maybe it sounds silly to some, but for me it was something that frustrated me beyond belief. There was one day I decided to dye it back to my natural chocolate brown color and cut seven inches off.

Now, my hair is short and brunette and it has changed how I view myself and my perception of beauty within me. Yes, I feel beautiful once more. But in a different way. My hair does not make me beautiful. What does, is accepting myself for who I am everyday.

With this post, I hope someone realizes to let go of what they think is the only thing that makes themselves beautiful. Learn to let go and change it up. There is nothing wrong with liking something about yourself, but if that is holding you back and causing upset, let it go. Change is good.
