Beer Tasting - Imperial Stout ('Gavran' by Medvedgrad Brewery)

in #beer7 years ago (edited)

Bitcoin is up but so are the alts! Holiday spirit of giving continues still! Do we see a turn of events if Bitcoin breaks to new heights? Maybe, but maybe BTC dominance keeps low and alts correct just as fast. Lots of new money coming in, let’s hope it’s not dumb money.

By that I wanted to emphasize that some of the alts are supporting working projects in development which will shape the next decade, I’m sure. There are shitcoins too, but let’s take advantage of this new market while it lasts. Once in a lifetime opportunity!

Check out Wabi coin. It had an ICO lately and focuses on buying/selling products. Buzzword I noticed is pharmaceuticals. Now there’s a ton of money! Whatever the case, I like how this chart looks, snailing upwards! It’s new, no bagholders and plenty of room in the cap for upward movement.

Epiphany day is when Christmas decorations are slowly going away. Holiday went by so quickly, I didn’t even manage to rest with all the trading and chatting with Steemian friends. Even better, nice to be productive.

Have the Christmas lights turned off at your place too?

The way led me to my favorite daily pub Medvedgrad. Great coffee and vibe. Reminds me of that Hobbit taverns they like to frequent. Smells like beer and broth, wet floors and beer casks. A real experience. They made a special brew for their birthday celebration. They spared no luxury here and you can taste it! They named it ‘Gavran’ or ‘Raven’ in English. Looks as black as one too!

StyleImperial Stout
CountryZagreb, Croatia
BreweryMedvedgrad Brewery
Alcohol10.8%
--------------
AppearancePitch black. Honeyish brown firm head. I think I discern wings and beak.
AromaCaramel and quite coca cola like. Barrelled malts. Not overly impressive.
TasteLike those rubber jelly wheels. Highlighted Licorice. Herbal bitter after initial sweetness. Very heavy taste. Overwhelming. A touch of detergent.
PalateLow to medium carbonation. Pretty thick and honeyish. Feeling of alcohol on the palate. Warming aftertaste. Not so bad here.
--------------
OverallI hate those rubber candy so this is not to my taste. It is just too heavy on the senses. I like stouts but I'd pass this one. Maybe Poe would like it. 0.25 ml is plenty.
Score (subjective)10/20

Price: 25 kuna (4.05$) for 0.25 ml. On tap at a pub. Splurge.

Seems unlikely but if you ever make your way to the states I highly recommend Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Some of the best craft beer in the country :)

Can't say I have tried or heard of Pivovara Medvedgrad Gavran before.

ahan would surely search about Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo, would be great thanks for telling buddy

It's Medvedgrad Brewery, only in Croatia. Maybe someone imports it but I doubt all the way to the USA. I wish I visit one day! Thanks for stopping by!

hows moto g4 plus ? working i mean should i buy it or not ? your reviews ? @buzzbeergeek ??

That’s definitely my favorite brew for the winter. Imperial stout! If it was aged in oak barrels it’s even better. Gets amazing after ageing for an year or two!

Wow, an Imperial Stout that you didn't really like. I fully anticipated that you and I both would have loved this one, but I am beginning to change my mind after your description. I usually don't mind, and actually quite like, the licorice flavor, so I just might find a liking for it. I if can ever find it, I would probably give it a shot anyway.

It's a seasonal. You know, always good for a change ;)

I've been drinking Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout lately and it's the shit! Most chocolate tasting beer I've had...

Really? Will be on the lookout!

Thanks for your post, and the great images. Also, I had never heard of Boozecoin. I need to get some! :-)

That beer looks way too dark for me!
Would definitely like to try it mind...
Had a few too many last night so not many beers at all today

Cheers 🍺

I've been on a Stout craze lately. This one looks good to the eyes but I believe you when you say it's overwhelmingly strong. 10.8% alc!

Yeah, stouts are super tasty!

not my cup of tea, but great review anyway. as always!
