Croatian beer - Short review
I enjoy following @buzzbeergeek and reading about the cool places he visits and also reading the beer reviews. A few weeks ago I went to my local BevMo to grab some IPA's. BevMo carries quite the selection of beers and also has a nice international selection. Some countries weigh heavy on selections and others barely any. So, while at the store I asked the clerk for any Croatian beers and the clerk referred me to the only Croatian beer in stock, Karlovačko. So I bought a bottle.
First thought, it tasted light but somewhat sweet. I felt like I had tasted a similar beer before. Took another drink and felt like it was an easy going beer to have on a nice warm summer day. I turned the label out of curiosity and I noticed the manufacturer or brewery ownership. Heineken. I then knew the familiar taste. Karlovačko tastes just like Heineken. Is it Heineken inside the bottle? I don't know but it sure tasted like it to me. No wonder this beer made its way into BevMo. Oh the power of the mega breweries. And if you weren't aware, one of my favorite California brewery's named Lagunitas was fully purchased by Heineken a few months ago. Speaking of, I coincidentally used a Lagunitas glass for my tasting session of Karlovačko.
Cheers! 🍻
