It's Beer Saturday - Boilermaker Edition
These may or may not have been consumed this week.
Today's #beersaturday post is dedicated to an American drinking tradition, The Boilermaker. Well, at least according to this wiki article
A snippet from the article -
- A boilermaker can refer to two types of beer cocktail. In American terminology, the drink consists of a glass of beer and a shot of whiskey.[1] The beer is either served as a chaser or mixed with the whiskey. When the beer is served as a chaser, the drink is often called simply a shot and a beer.
I don't recommend more than one at a sitting but if you play your cards right that's all you'll need. I don't really do shots so I just pour my shot into the beer. It's also fun to mix up the beer and whiskey combo to find new combinations.
Here's a couple tribute pics to some combos
The Standard
Beer - I like lagers better than pilsners so i'l always start there. Though it can be done, I just haven't. Yeah yeah, I know that glass holds about 2.5 beers....
**Whiskey - Any Canadian or blended whiskey. Leave the strong or good whiskeys out of it.
The Dessert
Beer - This actually inspired this post. I was getting dinner earlier this week and stumbled upon to this beer from the yuengling brewing company in Pennsylvania. It's a chocolate porter. Pretty damn tasty.
The bartender came over with a sampler for me and tells me that this is how people have been drinking it as she urged me to taste it before she told me what it was. I said, i'm not sure but it's pretty tasty, is that peanut butter?
**Whiskey - Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey
The Refresher
Beer - Burgkopf Grapefruit
If you're lucky enough to find this beer from Lithuania, get some. It is a sweeter fruit flavored Belgian ale, but it sips well and has a nice taste.
A couple weeks ago my brother in law came over. He's a big fan of Red Stag Black Cherry whiskey by Jim Beam. I had a small bottle for him and he didn't drink it all while he was over. My appreciation for Boilermakers took over in my brain and I thought to myself
****"I wonder what that Red Stag would taste like with my Burgkopf?"
Well it tasted pretty damn good. Like a beach side cocktail. These are dangerous. It's weird, I usually don't go for fruity tasting shit but both of these separate and together are pretty good.
**Whiskey - Jim Beam Red Stag
Well, that's it! Three Boilermaker Variations. If you are a connoisseur of this type of drink feel free to comment below with your favorite combo.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Cheers.

from time to time I like this fruity beers.
Here a sip of !BEER from me
I do like a good boilermaker - separate for me. My perference a very peaty smokey whiskey and big IPA, generally with fruit toned hops like Citra. If you can fine a black IPA then you are close to perfect
Nice. I like that. Got a whiskey you'd recommend that fits the bill?
