Old Engine Oil - Harviestoun Brewery

Once upon a time in a beerland far far away, when craft beers were still a unknown thing (for me), I got a chance to try a Ola Dhub. A black ale that is barrles aged in Highland Park whisky barrels. And I really, really, really, ... enjoyed it!

Now I had the chance to try Harviestoun Breweries Old Engine Oil which is the Ola Dhubs little brother. As it is the same beer, just not aged in a whisky barrel.

The Old Engine Oil immediately welcomed me with a nose full of roasted malts and ground coffee.

It bathed my tounge in caramel cappuccino and choclate flavors and hint of bitter. But contrary to its name, and its deep black appearance, it didn't feel like old engine oil at all. For me it had a light, creamy and refreshing mouthfeel which made it very pleasant to drink.
