Interesting Crypto Projects 1: Deboot Coin + 5% off code (Proof of Bandwidth!)

in #beyondbitcoin8 years ago (edited)

This is a series I am starting for Steemit. It's called interesting projects.

ANN THREAD https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1966649.0

I am not affiliated with DebootCoin in any way, I am simply promoting a coin. DISCLAIMER: I own some Deboot tokens.

I will be going through Bitcoin Talk's Announcement thread and looking for small but 'innovative' projects that I seem interested in, and I will tell my loyal followers- yes that's you!

Crypto Project 1: Deboot Coin

Now this is a really interesting one that I haven't seen before. It uses not Proof of Stake- but proof of Bandwidth! What?? Yes.
Proof of Bandwidth.

And that's a beautiful idea! :)

Here is what it says on the website:

What is Deboot?
The Deboot (DBC) coin is a project that incorporates modern monetization techniques into cryptocurrency. The Blockchain of the Music Industry is what this coin intends to be. Deboot Coin, like Bitcoin, is open source meaning it's source can be viewed by all. It is not owned by any institution and is the money for everyone - especially creative artists in the Music Industry. The coin isn't limited to music, and aspires to create a more suitable world. Where creative arts that are encouraging be encouraged. Helpful acts, random acts of kindness, all these things allow monetization to be involved. Youtube, discord, and social media tipping are also on the list.

The fact they are using this for monetization, as well as proof of work and proof of bandwidth is very brave of them to do so. The platform they use will be like YouTube or Spotify and this low supply coin is being sold at around 2.32 US at market value!

Psst: Use the coupon code (WEEK1EARLY) for 5% off :)

Here is the 'white paper' on what proof of bandwidth will look like.

Tor, the most popular deployed distributed onion
routing network, suffers from performance and scalability problems
stemming from a lack of incentives for volunteers to
contribute. Insufficient capacity limits scalability and harms the
anonymity of its users. We introduce DEBOOT, a lightweight scheme
that creates performance incentives for users to contribute bandwidth
resources to the Tor network. DEBOOT uses a novel cryptographic
lottery: winners may be guessed with tunable probability
by any user or bought in exchange for resource contributions.
The traffic of those winning the lottery is prioritized through
Tor. The uncertainty of whether a buyer or a guesser is getting
priority improves the anonymity of those purchasing winners,
while the performance incentives encourage contribution. DEBOOT
is more lightweight than prior reward schemes that pay for
service and provides better anonymity than schemes that simply
give priority to traffic originating from fast relays. We analyze
DEBOOT’s efficiency, anonymity, and incentives, present a prototype
implementation, and describe experiments that show it indeed
improves performance for those servicing the network.

Overall, it seems like a very interesting coin to join in and hop on. The price will continue to increase in value, and I think the tipping industry is one of the best industries this coin can disrupt!

Until next time, please comment what coin I should review next!

Happy Profits!
