BIBLE STORIES # 43 - Jesus solemnly enters Jerusalem

Jesus often told his disciples that before He was glorified, He would suffer a lot of suffering, that He would die and on the third day rise again. But the students could not understand what it meant. However, the hour was already near ... Knowing this, Jesus asked the disciples to bring him a young donkey to enter it in the capital. After all, the prophets foretold that the King of Israel would enter Jerusalem on a donkey.

At that time, many Jews were waiting for the near arrival of the Savior (he was also called Messiah or Christ). They thought that it would be a powerful king who would win independence and prosperity for Israel: Israel was then under the authority of the Roman Empire. Some realized that the Savior had already come and that it was Jesus. But they also expected that He was about to become famous and become king.

Therefore, when Jesus entered Jerusalem, everyone thought that their expectations would soon be fulfilled, and they met Him very solemnly. People paved the way with palm branches and their clothes, loudly sang and praised God. The Pharisees were unhappy with this, because they did not consider Jesus to be the Messiah, but they could not do anything about it.
