2021 Bicycle Trip, TransAm Trail

I try to plan one major bike or hike trip per summer though last year I didn’t get to go outside of Michigan. So this year I am doing my biggest trip yet.

-Planning/Itinerary–

Average daily mileage: 60-80 miles per day

     70 miles per day = 61 travel days, 5 rest days

-Start/end dates (subject to change) & miscellaneous information-

Approximate start date: July 1st, 2021

Approximate end date: Between August 31st & September 15th

Transportation to/from the start/finish points: Rental car

Route maps: Adventure Cycling trail maps and GPX files

Food plan: Packing 1 days’ worth of food, primarily eat at restaurants and convenient stores along route

Sleeping arrangements: Campground whenever possible, hotel/motel last choice

-Costs & Sponsors-

Estimated cost: $3000-4000

Veteran Affairs Hospital: Trike tune up and spare parts (tubes, tires, chain, break & shift cables

OSS (Joe Boogren): $1000

-Experience-

This is my second cross country bike trip. In 2018 I started in PA on the GAP & C&O bike trails into Washington DC then flew out to Santa Monica CA on historical Route 66 to St. Louis where I hopped on Route 40 and various other roads making my way back to Pennsylvania. Trip was approximately 3,000 miles and took roughly 2 ½ months, cost roughly $3,000. In 2017 I backpacked the Appalachian Trail from GA to ME. Walked 2,500 miles including the trip mileage to/from towns for resupplies. Trip took a nonstop 5 ½ months. Trip cost about $4,000. Spent 2019-2020 riding trips across the U.P. of Michigan. I have logged roughly 10,000 trail miles between hiking and biking since 2012. You can see those trips on my website here:
