I have come to the conclusion that history will not look kindly on Biden.

I saw Chuck Todd castigate Biden for running for president when his son was trying to get off drugs. I have come to the conclusion that history will not look kindly on Biden. It is not just the pardon. I think future historians will see Biden as a tragic figure. His flaw is ambition.

If Todd is right then around 2018 Biden saw his last chance for the office he so long desired - the presidency. So instead of ministering to his lone son, he put his energy into the presidency. And he won by running as a moderate who would unite the country. He was supposed to be a transitional president. He had an opportunity to play that role.

But to play that role he had to give up the office after a single term. But now that he had the presidency he did not want to give it up. So he didn't even as he began to deteriorate. His allies did their best to hide his decline but it was exposed in the debate with Trump. Eventually, according to Democrat insiders that I have listened to on CNN or MSNBC, Obama and Pelosi forced him to not run for re-election. Those insiders also stated that Obama and Pelosi wanted an open nomination process as they did not think Harris could win.

Biden had his opportunity to step away having done his transitional duty. But he endorsed Harris right away, probably still angry at being passed over as I am certain he knew that Obama and Pelosi did not want Harris. Well, we saw that Obama and Pelosi were correct and Harris's political skills were not up to the task.

And now it seems that he is sticking it to the Democrat party one more time by pardoning his son. I get why but he allowed the Democrat party to hold him up as a noble respecter of the justice system when it was pretty clear that he was not going to let his son go to jail. He could have left the possibility of a pardon open but he did not and left the Democrats with egg on their face. The moral arguments Democrats could make about respecting the rule of law is in shambles.

I have been saddened to see what Trump has done to the Republican Party. But as I take a long term look at Biden, and his ambition, I think he has done great damage to the Democratic Party. This bothers me because as a political independent I would like to see two healthy political parties so that whoever wins, the country will be in good shape. But now I have no confidence in either party. In different ways, Trump and Biden have done great damage to their respective political parties.
