Wild Turkey of New York City

This wild specimen was photographed strutting out onto the green of a golf course in the Bronx.

On this spot, in 1776, seven hundred and fifty American patriots held back 4,000 British troops allowing General Washington to flee Manhattan for the safety of White Plains. The turkey seemed unimpressed with the history.

Ben Franklin thought the turkey a perfect symbol for a new nation. An eagle won the day.
