my parrot of 38 years

in #birds7 years ago

Hi all bird lovers, my story is about to surprise you. In 1979 I met an amazone parrot in the middle of the djungle in Venezuela. He wanted absolutely to accompany me and would no leave my shoulder during the next two weeks traveling through the Orinoco valley. At that time it was still possible to smuggle a parrot through customs in Germany. Which I did. Ever since our dear Nori lived with us and survived because he did not eat regular hard food but soft food like fruit, vegetable and fish. He is very special and has an outstanding memory. Even after many years of absence, he recongnizes our children when they come to visit us. He might live longer than we do as he is still in best shape and very active. His character is strong: when we are away and come back, he is furious because we did not take him along. Unfortunately, we did not succeed in finding a female parrot for him. So he depends on us completely. Traveling abroad is difficult for us, because Nori is not legal in Germany. He needs papers and a ring aroung his leg. As he is under the protection law of nature preservation, we cannot declare him - not even after 38 years.
Hopefully, one of our children will be able to take Nori back when we are no longer able to take care of him.Nori Outside 03.JPG
