A Spotted Sandpiper dancing on the rocks
Getting close to a Spotted Sandpiper has proven to be very difficult. Every time I push my luck, off she goes :( They seem to be quite sensitive, so I learned to keep a respectful distance :) Because they move quite fast, zooming in too close can make for some bad video too, so our arrangement worked out quite well :)
In this video, the sandpiper slips on a rock and recovers nicely with a rapid flapping of the wings, which was a nice little show :) She then went rock hopping to eat some insects and I followed her along for the ride. I love how the Spotted Sandpiper bobs its butt up and down, in a rythmic fashion :) Always on the move!
This video was captured at Ceperley Meadow in Stanley Park, Vancouver BC, Canada.
Thanks for watching!
Sandpipers are very funny birds!))) They have interesting behavior and a way of life. Probably because basically we are accustomed to see the passerine birds. And Charadriiform for us is something new.
Yeah, some of them cowardly, like this bird with strange name - https://steemit.com/photography/@ratel/ratel-s-photos-73-water-birds-6
But some doesn't care about human, for example this lil guy - https://steemit.com/photography/@ratel/ratel-s-photos-80-water-birds-7
They are funny birds! Your pictures of the wood sandpiper and the little stint are amazing @ratel!
I've learned to recognize the high pitched call most of them make, usually as they are flying or about to take off. The way they fly is quite amazing too, with their pointy wing tips :)
I love following your videos! This is a lively bird and you got a good long clip of him. Resteemed & upped :)
Thank you @keithboone! I only had a few encounters with this sandpiper, so I'm happy with what I got :) Maybe this year I'll get closer ;)
The ones we have here seem smaller, and without spots.
I believe the spots only develop with their summer plumage, but don't quote me on that ;) There is so much about birds that I don't know, and I spend my free time chasing after them, and less time learning the details :) In due time though!
I should put the date on my videos/posts; I'm just diving into the mass of videos and picking stuff here and there :) I haven't spent enough time organizing my collection :(
For the record, this video was shot on May 30th, 2017 :)
