NEW-AGE BLOGGING TREND TAKES OVER
In an age where most of us are addicted to social media networks, a year old blockchain- and cryptocurrency-based social networking site claims to rewards their users for the content they create.
Steemit.com encourages its users to use the platform to create content and, by way of upvotes, monetise their writing in the form of Steemit’s own internet currencies: Steem and SBD. These cryptocurrencies are similar to the popular Bitcoin, often known as internet gold.
Following the initiative of pro blogger Meghan Naik, a team of 15 young and zestful writing enthusiasts consisting of bikers, photographers and sportspersons from Mangaluru who pledged to start employing their flair for writing are part of Steemit. They recently participated in the Steemit meet in Mangaluru.
Just as Facebook and Twitter use likes, shares and retweets; Steemit has upvotes that are accessible to all. The community upvotes each other and this rewards the author for their posts. Apart from making this platform free for all to join and use, Steemit also manages to reward every author for every post or comment that is upvoted. The site also has the concept of curation rewards to reward voters for curating good quality content. Moreover, all the articles are categorised under tags making it reader friendly.
Naik is one of the first Indians on Steemit platform. He explained how to use the platform, how the incentives work, tips to make the most of this new technology. Use of
cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin in the Indian scenario was also disseminated to the gathering.
“I came across this platform a year ago and invested my time and effort in writing content and building a global community for Steemit. The idea is to help many users use of this new platform to their benefit. Steemit rewards its users for their attention, effort and engaging with its platform,” Naik said.
