The true value of bitcoin and how it can make you rich!

Oh hey there! Welcome to a decade-old (almost), super ambitious and intriguing experiment — Bitcoin! Ah yes, the most venerable coin of them all! But hey I’m not here to regurgitate all the technical details or investment ‘advice’ that I know you’re tired of hearing about and pretending to understand. Instead, I will distill the most important concepts that I believe capture the true meaning of Bitcoin. Now let’s get started!

Global and Open

Bitcoin was created on the internet and serves the purposes of the internet generation — we are that generation! It is not owned by any individual or organization rather it is a common shared good available to everyone on this beautiful planet. Anyone of us can choose to participate at any time, at any capacity, and for as long as we want to. We don’t need to ask for permission because its an open, neutral and border-less system made for and by the people. These two factors make the Bitcoin network a place for active, free, and vibrant minds. Our collective efforts, ongoing participation and vigilance will ensure Bitcoin’s security and resilience while it matures to realize its full potential.

Unlimited Possibilities

We all know Bitcoin’s first application: A worldwide digital money that is open-source and not controlled by a central power; its financial freedom yo! Yes, but wait there’s more. Its also used as a speculative investment in the West and as a stable alternative currency elsewhere. Bitcoin is much like the internet in the sense that we can scale, build and develop it to create new tools that will shape our future. Digging deeper you also see that its about more than cool tech or new money; its about how we interact as people. You can advocate for privacy, use distributed applications, contribute to open source projects or anything you like! Sure, we started by looking at money, but there are so many other social concepts to explore and this wanting for knowledge is something we should all embrace. So put on your thinking caps build, break, and repeat!

Educational Catalyst

You might recall the name of the creator of Bitcoin which kind of rhymes with Sushi (when hungry) and Kumamoto, but that detail is largely irrelevant. What you should recall is that Bitcoin was a direct response to the financial crisis of 2008. This sparked an interest in our monetary system and a host of other things which Bitcoin now absorbs: politics, economics, governance, privacy, math, your salary, memes and more. Bitcoin has a natural way of binding all these issues together, but we must remember why it does so. As such it has been said that Bitcoin’s true killer feature is knowledge. To me it was a wake up call and has taught me more than I could’ve imagined about the aforementioned topics. Yes, Bitcoin can enrich more than your pockets! It can broaden your knowledge base and provide you useful tools for the rest of your life, so let that be the first lesson.
