Happy 11th Birthday, Bitcoin!

January 3 is not only Bitcoin's birthday, but also Proof of Keys day now.

It's the day, that...

  • Everyone should withdraw their funds from centralised, custodial services
  • Everyone should review their private keys, passwords, 12-word recovery phrases, etc. to be sure you saved them in a secure place and remember where they are, should you unexpectedly lose access to your wallets

If you're not familiar with with the words "custodial" and "non-custodial" yet, I highly recommend watching this short clip below.

Custodial services don't give you the private keys. That means they hold your money for you and you have to trust that they won't lose it (and boy do they often lose people's money...)

Non-custodial services give you full control over your keys. That means you have to trust yourself, to be able to keep your funds and personal data secure.

This video explains the difference between custodial and non-custodial services really well!

Do you know where your private keys are?
When's the last time you checked if you have your Steem keys saved securely? ;)
