Question about getting a bitcoin account to buy Steem
So, I'm still a little apprehensive on all of this digital currency stuff. I really want to buy steem but it looks like i'll have to buy bitcoin in order to do it. Seems silly to me. I personally would like to use my bank account to buy steem. Anyway, what methodology would be my best course of action? There are so many bitcoin retailers that want to help set up an account. What is the official bit coin site to set up an account? Thanks for help and any comment is appreciated.
Hi @crowe, there is no central bitcoin site, this is the meaning behind blockchain.
In order to buy bitcoin you can try for example Coinbase. its also possible to buy via credit card but the fee is higher. Afterwards you need to exchange your bitcoin to whatever you want via poloniex or bittrex.
Hope this helps for the beginning.
Thanks. I've also been hearing lately about very high fees when transferring bit coin? What would the fee be about in your opinion if i were to transfer bit coin to buy steem? Thanks.
Being That I am also new, I may not be the best advice. But what I did was bought ethereum and litecoin which can be traded into steem via shapeshift.io Coinbase sells ethereum, litecoin, and bitcoin. Bittrex, openledger, and poloniex which has been having lots of issues it seems lately, all trade crypto.
From what I can tell you pretty much have to start with one of the major coins, and then trade from there.
Thanks. I would rather purchase litecoin or ethereum. I have been hearing about ridiculous fees in association with bitcoin lately.
Hi,
I did a small post this morning on getting Bitcion. Here is the link https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@knowtheblock/the-safest-easiest-way-to-start-with-bitcoin-ethereum-and-the-blockchain-coinbase
To purchase Steem I moved Ethereum directly to the Steem wallet app. Secondly today I also moved a very small amount of Bitcoin on the Poloniex exchange to pick up a little more Steem - that is by far the easiest why to move things quickly - however you run the risk of an exchange having issues.
