Does not my anger indicate the seriousness with which I would like someone to stop displaying an action? Creating an association in their mind to an unfavorable response to their action.. Therefor less likely to repeat said action in the future. While I don't approve of violence for non-defense reasons isn't yelling and threatening violence an affective means of communicating distaste?
