Bithumb Hack Leaves 30K Scammed In Record Bitcoin Heist

South Korean based bitcoin company, Bithumb just got embroiled in one of the biggest bitcoin heists of all time. With the rise of Bitcoin's value to about $2,600, it has gained attention of some who want to cash in.

Now several people are at a loss as over 30,000 Bithumb customers information such as phone numbers and account information has been breeched.

Although Bithumb is assuring the general public that no user passwords were stolen, its not stopping the culprits from continuing to gain access to the 30,000 clients who's data was breached.

This is the fourth largest bitcoin exchanges according to Motherboard and it had even jumped to first place of all the daily traded cryptocurrencies on Wednesday.

But that might all be about to change.

According to Bithumb, an employee's computer and not its central servers were compramised.

In a statement Bithumb said, via BraceNewCoin,

"The employee PC, not the head office server, was hacked. Personal information such as mobile phone and email address of some users were leaked. However, some customers were found to have been stolen from because of the disposable password used in electronic financial transaction."

The missing bitcoin all amounts to billions of won, where one (1) won is about $870,000.

This is similar to the Mt. Gox loses in which $460 million in bitcoin at the time was hacked in 2014.

Appearently, the hackers are also using voice phishing to call the remaining customers whose accounts they couldn't gain access to, to wipe their accounts too
