The World of Cryptocurrency - Security

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

We are now living in a time were cryptocurrency started to dominate the world's economy. It is very important for us to be acquinted with this advancement of technology for us not to be left behind scratching our heads. Recently, I've discussed topics about crypto currency such as: Cryptocurrency Mining, What really is blockchain, What's the difference of fiat money and cryptocurrency and Which ICO will I invest?.

And now we are going to learn about on how to secure our bitcoin wallet from hackers. They were sprouting like muchrooms all over the net and we dont know when they will attack and how they will penetrate our accounts. We must do countermeasure to secure our hard-earned bitcoins.

The most important thing to remember from a security standpoint is that we have to keep our keys secure - that is the private keys to our Bitcoin addresses because with those keys our money can be spent or withdrawn. Whenever we hear about Bitcoin being compromised - it is really someone's keys being compromised. It is just like the keys of our house or car that they can go in and take whatever we have.

The most common storage for our cryptocurrency are the exchanges but there is a high risk in keeping our coins there since we don't hold our private keys. In fact, we don't even know what our private keys are. Essentially, the exchange is holding our private keys and we have to trust that exchange won't get hacked. In the recent past, two former large exchanges got hacked and thousands of bitcoins were lost from their users. When it comes to cryptocurrency, private keys are everything - if someone holds our private keys, they hold our cryptocurrency.

This crucial security problem was solved by a single device - it is Trezor Offline Wallet. It is a hardware wallet that is not connected whatsoever to the internet. It is completely separate entity and its whole purpose is to store our private keys so that we are in full control of our coins. It is extremely portable and can be inserted into any computer or laptop with a USB port or any smartphone by using an adapter. It's a simple device with a small screen to verify send transactions and two small buttons to confirm or disapprove all commands. Anytime we want to send Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency that we have stored on the device, we simply have to plug it in via USB and we can sign off the transaction without ever exposing our private keys. And to receive cryptocurrency, we don't even have to plug the trezor in.

We just need to setup trezor to ready for use. Please refer to the video below on how to setup trezor wallet.

Cool, can I permanently borrow 100 sbd for a trezor? :) I have been wanting one

Trezor is an offline wallet wherein we can store our cryptocurrency safely. It is not a credit card to borrow sbd 🤣

You obviously misunderstood my comment

ops, sorry for that buddy :)

you can power down to have sbd for your trezor :)

No one is secure. Someday Bitcoin will be hacked in it's entirety.

Hello & Cheers!! I'm a content detection and information bot. You are receiving this reply because a short link or links have been detected in your post/comment. The purpose of this message is to inform your readers and yourself about the use of and dangers of short links.

To the readers of the post: Short links are provided by url shortening services. The short links they provide can be useful in some cases. Generally their use is benign. But as with all useful tools there are dangers. Short links can be used to hide all sorts of things. Quite frequently they are used to hide referral links for instance. While not dangerous this can be deceptive. They can also be used to hide dangerous links such as links to phishing sites, sites loaded with malware, scam sites, etc. You should always be extremely cautious before clicking on one. If you don't know and trust the poster don't click. Even if you do you should still be cautious and wary of any site you are sent to. It's always better to visit the site directly and not through a short link.

To the author of the post: While short links may be useful on some sites they are not needed on steemit. You can use markdown to format your links such as this link to steemit. It's as simple as [steemit](https://steemit.com) Unlike short links this allows the reader to see where they are going by simply hovering over the link before they click on it.

This message was created by a bot. It is part of the ongoing fight against spam and phishing attacks on steemit. If you did not use short links in your post and feel you have received this message in error you can contact @fubar-bdhr on discord or @fubar.bdhr on steemit chat to report the issue.

you seem an experienced cryptocurrency exchanger. These days there is a talk in the market and i also heard the analysis of bitcoin investors that bitcoin is going to hit $10k this year. i wanted to buy it but i stop, thinking that it will come down. Now, i don't have any idea whether it will come down or keep going up like rocket speed. Please, share your experience. When should i buy bitcoin? thank you.

I heard that also that bitcoin will reach as high as 10k $ per coin b4 2017 ends. Due to its high demand, it will surely soar high unless there is fork taking place but still it will recover and continue rising. The best time to buy btc is right after hard fork coz its price will drop. 😄

Its not late to invest in bitcoin since this will be the future currency

so, when will this hard fork happen?

Why are you talking about trezor and not ledger? As far as I'm aware, ledger wallet (https://www.ledgerwallet.com/) is a better option.

yes, I appreciate you.

All cryptos have the potential to be used by hackers in the black market. There is no way to prevent it so we will continue to talk about security. There is no end :)
