How To Buy Altcoins

I recommend using Binance, Poloniex, or Bittrex to buy altcoin, however I don't have any payment information attached to these exchanges. For that, I use Coinbase.

  1. The first step is to signup at Coinbase. You should also verify your Coinbase account to ensure you won't have to wait 72 hours when transferring funds from Coinbase to any other exchange.
  2. Next, signup at another exchange to purchase Altcoins: Binance, Bittrex, or Poloniex, depending upon the cryptocurrencies you'd like to invest in. To deposit to and withdraw funds from Bittrex and Poloniex, you must have a verified account, which requires some personal information and a photo of your identification, such as your Driver's license. However, Binance does not require this, which is why I prefer it. (Also note that Poloniex and Bittrex have temporarily suspended account registration, so Binance is the best option.)

Make a purchase on Coinbase

Before I explain Coinbase's purchasing process, I first want to make a recommendation:

  • If their goal is to send funds to another exchange to purchase altcoins, you should purchase Litecoin. Why? The transaction time is far superior when compared to Bitcoin and Ethereum, and the transaction fees are next to nothing.
The only downfall to using Litecoin over Bitcoin is that it is a slightly longer process, but we will get to that later.

As you can see from the screenshot above, you can click on Buy/Sell from the tabs in the upper left, and then select Litecoin. Select the amount you want to purchase (either in USD or LTC), and the click Buy Litecoin. Once your funds are available, you can move to the next step.

Send funds from Coinbase to the exchange of your choosing

  1. Most exchanges function the same, so they should have a button in the upper right labelled Funds, Wallet, or Balances. Click on that, and if required, click Deposits and Withdrawals.

  2. Click on the search bar and type in 'LTC'.
  3. Litecoin should populate, and when it does, you can click on Deposit.
  4. Doing so will generate a Deposit Address (or a public key).
  5. Copy that address to your clipboard, and before you leave the page take a mental note of the first two and last characters of that address.

  6. Next open Coinbase, and click on Account in the upper left
  7. Click on LTC Wallet.
  8. Click Send, and paste the address within the Recipient box.
  9. Select the appropriate Amount to send, and then click Continue. (Proceed through the transfer)

Wait

That's right, there is a waiting period. That waiting period consists of the amount of time it takes both sites to register the transfer and for all confirmations to go through.

Trade LTC for BTC or USDT depending upon the coins pair

  1. Once confirmed, you can navigate back to Binance, Bittrex, or Poloniex, and you can click on Exchange.
  2. Ensure that you're using the BTC market, or the USDT market, if that's your goal (as opposed to the ETH market, for example.)
  3. Search or browse for LTC, and click on it.

  4. Now, you can sell your LTC by locating the Sell box, as opposed to the Buy box. Sell all your shares of LTC for BTC.
    Screen Shot 2018-01-14 at 1.28.51 PM.png
  5. I like to set the price just below the current price so that my sell will go through immediately. For example, LTC (LTC/BTC) is trading at 0.017700, so I would set my sell price at 0.01769.
  6. Awesome! Now you have Bitcoin!

Buy the coin you'd like to invest in

  1. Now, locate the coins you'd like to invest in within the same box you found LTC in. For example, if you want to invest in Cardano (ADA), click on the BTC market (since you now have BTC), search for ADA, and then click on it. Screen Shot 2018-01-14 at 1.31.51 PM.png
  2. Now, you can buy your ADA, for example, by locating the Buy box, as opposed to the Sell box. Buy the number of shares that satisfies you, or as many as your Bitcoin will take you :)
  3. Again, you can set the purchase price just above what it's trading at. For example, Cardano's price (ADA/BTC) is currently 0.00005691, so you can set it at 0.00005695, select the number of shares you want to buy, and then click Buy!Screen Shot 2018-01-14 at 1.34.27 PM.png

Now, you can HODL, or you can trade

I hope this helps some of you purchase some altcoins. If anyone has questions, or they need help with anything crypto-related, please let me know! If you're looking to invest in cryptocurrency, you can signup at Coinbase or Binance (both affiliate links). If you're against using affiliate links, I'm not offended in any way, and you can use the following two links: Coinbase and Binance. Both of these exchanges are my favorites, Coinbase for Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum, and Binance for several altcoins.

Thank you :)
And, if you have any questions, or you need any help along the way, please let me know!

you are welcome.i have a question.can i withdraw from coinpot directly on my paypal or visa or i need another way?(i have a litecoin wallet).

I haven't ever used Coinpot, unfortunately. However, from my research, I saw they had several withdrawal options. The one I'd recommend is Coinbase, though. I've been using them for over a year now, and I've had no problems at all. Coinbase would let you transfer your funds to a bank account, or they have a credit card you can use to spend your funds. Or, you can send from Coinbase to a more secure wallet (such as Exodus), or to a hard wallet.

i will try...but i think Coinbase doesn't work in Romania.
