Built my first Dedicated Miner with cheap Used Parts

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

Ok I posted earlier how I used my gaming computer to mine with Nicehash and made 0.002 coins in 8 days. Well I have decided to go to the next step and build a dedicated Miner. Being a retired Sgt from the Air Force with a family I don't have a lot of spare cash to play with. So I used an old HP 775 chipset computer with a Core2 Duo 1.8 Ghz cpu with 4 gigs of DDR ram. I got a 120gb sata II SSD. For the GPU I have a GTX 1050ti I bought used for $125.00

What everyone wants to know will it make money and how long will it take to pay for itself? I paid no more than $15.00 for the computer locally from a letgo ad. The SSD I paid $30.00 off of Ebay. The GTX 1050ti again letgo for $125.00, so the grand total is $170.00. I am using Nicehash to mine with and a unregistered copy of Windows 10. I used MSI after burner to overclock the card plus 150 on the GPU plus 250 on the ram. I have put the machine outside in an unheated garage, so heat won't be an issue for a few months. When it begins to get hot I will bring it into my office with the AC. OK ok enough about the specs, what can it do?

Screenshot (12)_LI.jpg

As you can see from the picture, the card is making around $0.96 a day. Using that number the GPU will pay for itself 130 days and the entire system will pay for itself in 182 days. Now of course that IS going to change day by day since the value of Bitcoin changes minute by minute. At the time the screenshot was taken Bitcoin is worth just under $10000.00 dollars while just 3 weeks ago it was over $17000.00 and Decemeber it was over $19000.00. With those numbers the machine could pay for itself in less that 100 days or if it keeps dropping it might not ever pay for itself.

That is why I personally in my situation I can not nor do I think I would invest large sums of money into a big multi expensive GPU machine now on the other hand if I had a large sum of money to risk I would with out a doubt take the risk. The nice thing about crypto mining is you can get started for under $200.00

Not the begging! If you like this at all please upvote and resteem. I will be posting updates and other similar posts so if you like please follow me.

Sort:

you need 4 to 6 GPU must and go to more profits

I got a free riser with a motherboard I bought. I will keep an eye out for another card, if I can get it cheap. Then I will have two cheap cards mining. This is more about the experience than the profit. If bitcoin gets up over 15k again and appear to be stable I would consider making a serious dedicated miner.

If you are going to place an ad on my post you could at least upvote and resteem. I am sure I am talking to a bot but if not please show some love.

yeah unfortunately mining with home rigs is practically dead unless you have solar and a garage full of gpus

I can understand if person thinks they are going to get rich. For me it is more just to see what it can do and if I can make some spare change.

What are your electricity costs like?

Where I live it is 0.0975 per KWhour.

Eh, you're barely profitable at that price, then. I was pulling 0.0002 BTC/day on NiceHash with my GTX970, and I was spending about a third of my revenue on electricity. I spend about $0.105/kWHr

I wound up ditching that and going for mining zCash elsewhere. I'm pulling in about 0.004ZEC/day, which is about equal to what you're making in BTC. It's a lot less taxing on my system, and I'm drawing a wee bit less power, too.

Using nicehash I mine whatever the most profitable algo is at the time. For me it is more of an experiment than anything else. If I can make money Wonderful. The equipment I am using I got on the cheap and the system other than the GPU is so out of date to be worthless for anything else. The GPU should pay for itself in close to 100 days depending on what Bitcoin does, that is within the accepted norm the rest is basically trash if I didn't use it in a mining rig. I will post updates

Looking forward to them! I just followed you.

Thanks for the follow I will return the favor. I am still trying to find my niche in here I am making posts and videos of my crypto experiment and of my female Standard Poodles journey into motherhood.

Sounds like fun! Should be good to see how it pans out.

If you like Poodles, at great dog. You should check out my post and video on dtube.

I didn't really address the electricity cost because I have no way to accurately measure but the cpu is rated at 65 tdp and the GPU is rated at I believe 70 tdp. I don't expect to see much difference in my electric bill. If I do I will update.

Keep it going, good work! Upvote for you!

Thanks so much I will try to return the favor. I am trying to make posts that have good content.

Good content, that's the goal, steemit it's full of people saying nothing, we have to change that. See you around.

Don't forget you can upvote your own posts and comments and others

nice post thanks for sharing dear

Thank you. I had a problem with the power supply in the cheapo system so I have had to move the gpu into another low cost but more modern system with a G4560 cpu.
