The Theif is a moron. Literally the first thing that popped into my head reading this (and I am not suggesting anyone steal coins, I am just saying that this is what you would expect someone to do) is that he should have, first thing, sent .5 BTC to 1 BTC at a time to 50-100 random addresses that people give out on the internet hoping that someone will give them coins. The people that got the coin would just think it was their lucky day, and would start spending them, then that would start a wild goose chase for anyone trying to figure out who did it. Again, not suggesting he do this or anyone ever do this, just what he would do if he had any brains.
