GIVEDIRECT.IO A BLOCKCHAIN FIRM IN GHANA PROVIDES $5,671.00 UNCONDITIONAL BASIC INCOME TO 34 HOUSEHOLDS
When you give the right way the receiver also uses it for the right purpose, this is what the good books did say and it is the kind of feeling the GIVEDIRECT team heard when they realized the monthly Basic Income donations presented to the NACHEM community in the Gushegu district has been put into good use.
From the first week of February this year, the GiveDirect team begun the distribution of its first universal basic income Donations to the citizens of the Nachem community.
The GiveDirect project uses the Blockchain technology to provide a level playing field between philanthropists in the Diaspora and the people of the Northern Part of Ghana, the employment of the blockchain technology is to bridge the gap and move away from the middlemen syndrome that has marred the work of philanthropy in the country.
An amount of $5,671.00 has been released directly to 34 households and 2 country directors for the project. These donations are transparent and visible to anyone and can be verified anywhere in the world, this is the best situation where a donor is very sure that his or her donation has reached the rightful beneficiary.
The donations were sent to through an escrow account and the Stellar immutable blockchain was employed to provide the kind of trust the donor and beneficiary needed.
One wonderful situation is each beneficiary has access to their own wallet, the NFC WRISTBAND WALLET. This wallet holds the amount of money they are supposed to receive and is accessible through the givedirect android app.
In the northern part of Ghana most people who go in there to make donations somewhat does not go there with what they really needed other than food, clothes and some household items. Even though they are important these items do not last and it brings them back to square one.
Now, giveDirect has decided to take a different approach, which is to give the PEOPLE the POWER OF CHOICE, which is to provide them with CASH.
And instead of taking everything home as this was the funds given to them with no strings attached they also came together and decided to commit part of the funds they received INTO HIRING A PRIVATE TEACHER TO TEACH THEIR WARDS IN AN ABANDONED GOVERNMENT COMMUNITY SCHOOL BUILDING. When given the choice, they chose to EMPLOY A SCHOOL TEACHER to provide BASIC EDUCATION to the children of the COMMUNITY.
The team was also amazed at the kind of enthusiasm at which the beneficiaries gave out of what they got to help renovate the school building for their wards.
In total each home received an amount of GHC 700.00 worth of STELLAR Coins (XLM).
For transparency, the SOCIAL WELFARE GHANA’S DIRECTOR FOR THE GUSHEGU DISTRICT was present to witness the occasion.
