Amazon.com accepting Bitcoin ( well not exactly)

I speak to a lot of people about Bitcoin and they look at me like I am an Alien. I tell them about Blockchain technology and explain to them that Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency. One of the first things they ask is how do they get bitcoin and what stores accept Bitcoin as payment? The second thing they tell me, is that it sounds like a scam. I then tell them that Bitcoin has been around since 2009 and that if they bought $1000 dollars worth in 2009 they would be very rich today as the current Bitcoin price is over $4,000. Now they get a little interested!

As to where you can buy Bitcoin in the US, the easiest way to do it is through Coinbase.com. You sign up, verify your bank account information, and you are ready to get involved in the exciting world of cryptocurrency. You can buy Bitcoin with US dollars and sell bitcoin and get US dollars back into your bank account. Owning Bitcoin is a great investment opportunity but the main function of bitcoin is to be used as an alternate currency. The only way for this idea to spread and be implemented is to actually use your Bitcoin to purchase goods and services. BTW if you click on the link above I can get a possible $10 dollar referral fee, and so can you .

Sorry, as of right now Amazon is not accepting Bitcoin but you can use a site like Purse.io for a workaround to purchase items on Amazon with Bitcoin

Spendabit.co is a search engine for things you can buy with Bitcoin

Overstock.com is an online merchant that accepts bitcoin as a payment.

Listen most of us do not even carry cash anymore. We use our Debit cards. We pay a fee and the vendor we buy from pays a fee. Never mind that we are supporting a system that makes us broke.( sorry, almost went off on a rant there. Ok back on track) If you have a Coinbase account you can obtain a Bitcoin Debit card from https://www.shiftpayments.com/card. You can use this card just like any other debit card including making ATM withdrawals. I just signed up for my card tonight and I can't wait to get it in the mail.

There are many other options and with some continued support for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, we will be able to use crypto everywhere. This is just a simple list and easy way to get starting buying and using Bitcoin. Please be aware that Bitcoin value fluctuates and is very volatile right now. Those of us that are in love with Bitcoin predict the price to go up in the future but it is important that everyone evaluates their own risk tolerance before jumping into Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

I would not count on Amazon accepting Bitcoin anytime soon. The logistics are too great for a major retailer to handle.

Amazon already caved when it came to collecting state taxes. How is that going to work when the IRS comes knocking at their door? Are they going to charge a 25% Federal Tax surcharge? Are they going to issue 1099s on all purchases so you can pay capital gains on your BTC?

Mark my words. Uncle Sammy is going to come calling for his cut!

Also, what major retailer is going to accept a medium of payment that has the potential for wild price swings. Say I pay 2 BTC for an item at the current price of $4,200 per BTC. Later that afternoon Jamie Dimon says Bitcoin is dead and the price drops to $3,600. I do not know of any accounting system that's going to be able to rectify that!!!

I'm not trying to be a "hater" of spread "fud", but these are questions that need to be answered.

this is why we need to do our part if we want to see Bitcoin adopted

there bitpay which auto convert bitcoin to fiat

When Amazon starts accepting crypto's for payments it will cause a huge stir in the markets! But who will be the first major online merchant to go all in on cryptocurrencies, that will be something interesting to watch for. I did not know about Overstock, I guess I need to check that out. :)

I agree. I think that they will wait until the volatility flattens out. They are also waiting to see what the government regulations are going to be.

Thanks for sharing, this is a good information to share around, especially for the communities that has little to no knowledge about bitcoin.

I have used purse.io's service, not to buy but helps to buy stuff via my amazon account and use my gift card which I earned via mturk.

Keep up the good work!

thanks for the info

Thank you sharing Scott. I plan on checking out spendabit and also that debit card too. Do you know if cards like that also exist for LiteCoin or Ethereum?
