Our late afternoon travel to George

in #bitcoin6 years ago

“Hi sir, we would like a day pass please” I ask with a very excited tone as we arrive at Calitzdorp Spa. Calitzdorp spa is a lovely resort, or let me rephrase that, use to be a lovely resort. This place has hot swimming pools and cold swimming pools. Unfortunately we were not able to use any of these facilities as the day visitors are not allowed in after 15:00. We were 10 minutes late, yes I know, it’s only 10 minutes.
We then decided to have the last bit of our sandwiches that was stuffed in at the bottom of our seat. Had a cold drink and headed out. We had to conquer the horrible road between Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn. (Side note: Do not travel this road at night. Random potholes jumping at you. We do live in South Africa, so you might have some animals too.)
We arrived in Oudtshoorn at around 16:00 and we had one of two choices: Risk the backpackers again or head out to George before it gets dark to reach my aunt and uncle’s house.
Guess what we did?
NEITHER! We had dinner.
We saw a couple of bikes and decided to join them for something to eat. The place we ended up at was called Brian’s Grill and Family restaurant. (Side note: Only go here if you are really hungry. They serve a big portion of pretty much everything!) A cute setup to the place as well.
We left Oudtshoorn at 18:00 and took the 56 minute drive to George. You might be thinking, is she about to complain about 56 minutes? Outeniqua Pass is its name and it will forever be my fear.
As we approach George’s big mountains we see the mist crawling over the mysterious mountains. We are already chasing the sun and now we have a new opponent in the race, the cold. As we approach this big beast, I see a sign coming up on my left “Outeniqua Pass”. Woa, woa, woa what? This was not on our agenda. (Side Note: If you are unsure what a pass is please continue reading this side note; A pass is basically a road getting you over a mountain (Most of the time). Whether you are going up or down, you will definitely come across some hectic bends.) At this point of our adventure I am not very confident with myself of this bike. I have not ever come across bends like these on a motorbike. I would’ve loved my first time to have been on a hot day. Not a misty, cold night.
We obviously made it through the pass. I almost cried when I saw the lights belonging to a very pretty town surrounded with Blue Mountains.
With frozen fingers, legs and arms we arrived at my aunt’s house and got the biggest surprise for the day, heated blankets!
