Wu told the police that the group's moderator, a Dai, regularly shared links to articles exposing the potential for hackers to expose the platforms. He regularly alerted members of the group, reminding them that they should not keep their digital currencies on these sites.

Worried, Wu contacted Dai so he could provide him with safety advice.

This is where the nightmare began.

The moderator sent Wu a "wallet" application to generate a new Bitcoin address. The victim downloaded the application, and transferred on July 16 his 188,31 Bitcoins to this address.

Ten days later, Wu realized that all of his Bitcoins had disappeared.

He immediately alerted Dai, asking him if it was possible to meet him in person. He refused, before sending him the sum of 120,000 yuan (about 15,500 euros) to comfort him:

" I'm sorry for you. After all, it was me who advised you this wallet. Let me pay you 120,000 yuan, as a gesture of good will. "

It was this dispatch that prompted Wu to report the problem to the police. He was convinced that an innocent person would never send such a sum to a complete stranger.
