According to Saturday reports from the Xinhua state press agency, after a few months of investigation, the police detained people suspected of being allowed, as it was determined - the largest such theft of this kind in China so far.

Three people have been arrested so far. Detention took place last Wednesday in the provinces of Hunan, Changchun and the capital of the country, Beijing.

According to a report by the Xinhua agency, one of the victims of the hackers, who was the first to report law enforcement, was Zhang, a native of Xi'an city in the northwest of China who declared in March that as a result of a "remote attack" on lost bitcoins, ethereum and several other cryptocurrencies equivalent to approximately 100 million yuan ($ 14.5 million).

As a result of a several-month investigation conducted in cooperation with local Internet providers, the police managed to track three people suspected of stealing. According to investigative findings, they were to admit a series of cyber-intrusions and unlawful acquisition of cryptocurrencies, totaling about 600 million yuan ($ 87 million). The aim of thieves was to fall on both personal computers and networks of local companies.

As the investigators declare, this is not the end of the investigation, therefore, in connection with the case, one can expect further detentions and the total sum of stolen cryptocurrencies may still exceed the initial police estimates.

It turns out, however, that this is not the only case with cryptocurrencies in the background, which in recent months have been forced to deal with Chinese law enforcement agencies.

Not much more than a month ago, the local police detained 20 people connected with one of the local IT companies who were accused of creating and spreading illegal malware, using the operating power of infected computers for cryptocurrency mining.

Over two years, the software has infected over one million computers in China, digging digibyte, decred and siacoin coins equivalent to about $ 2 million into hackers' account
