in #bitshares8 years ago (edited)

We all knew it would be just a matter of time. IRS now has legal authority to rip apart cryptocurrency transactions.

Head's-up, people.

We will start buying p2p. in the future things will be too decentralized. The govt better adapt.

Absolutely. The writing is on the wall, and it can be seen everyday with the crypto inching within an arms-reach away from Gov. Some Govs are def. more progressive than others, it really depends on the political climate within each country.

I starting to notice a positive trend towards the dollar. Trump presidency might have hurted the crypto community a bit. I could be wrong. Hopefully Peter thiel can lend us a hand, lol hopefully

Silver lining: Coinbase is fighting back and Trump plans to lower/simplify taxes

That's good to hear.

I guess the other silver lining, is that the government is recognizing cryptocurrency as legitimate money.

According to another Steemit article Coinbase already forced to hand over the info but it is inaccurate "David Farmer, a Coinbase spokesman, told Ars that the company plans to fight the order in court. The government's request so far has been ex parte, or one-sided—Coinbase has not been formally invited to court to challenge the IRS. “We are aware of, and expected, the Court’s ex parte order today,” the company said in a statement provided by Farmer on Wednesday afternoon. “We look forward to opposing the DOJ’s request in court after Coinbase is served with a subpoena. As we previously stated, we remain concerned with our US customers’ legitimate privacy rights in the face of the government’s sweeping request.”" thats 8 hrs ago

Thanks for the information! This is another big topic that can shape the future of real money in a big way. In the IRS vs. Crypto/Real Money fight, I back the decentralized or hard money all day everyday.
