Bitshares - State of the Network - 26th September 2017
The Bitshares State of the Network Reports seeks to combine raw data from a wide range of metrics and combine them into meaningful information to identify emerging trends and changes in the Bitshares network.
Observation from this week
This section will highlight any observations made while analysing the data.
Bitspark are beginning the move their remittance business founded in Hong Kong (2014) to the Bitshares network! <- go read that again.. Bitspark is looking to expand to a global landscape by utilizing the power of Bitshares Smartcoins instead of holding currency and bank accounts in countries where they wish to do business. To start with they will be showcasing their system powered by Bitshares with the Republic of Tajikistan as part of a UN financial inclusion project. Tajikistan is a country in central Asia which has roughly 30-40% of its GDP is derived from international remittances. I highly recommend you listen to George Harrap (CEO and Co-Founder of Bitspark) on this week Bitshares hangout HERE (5:55-34:30) to get a full understanding of the project.
Cryptofresh The Original Bitshares Block Explorer has successfully migrated to new server hardware. In the week prior the previous hardware was being overloaded with the amount of requests hitting the page as well services using the API's. Given the role of this service and needing to monitor all accounts, assets and operation the RAM usage alone was between 30-40 GB. The new hardware is a higher performance machine packed with RAM and is running smoothly for the last week. I would personally like to extend a huge Thank you to @roadscape who has been maintaining this service as a voluntary effort for a large part of 3 years. This service has played a huge role in the eco-system and it is still the go to explorer for the Bitshares network
BitShares DEX-Based SEC-Compliant Tokens & Exchange - @stan Larimer has announced a final summer bombshell - a 100% compliant exchange and a growing inventory of security, commodity and other types of tokens that pass SEC scrutiny, built on BitShares, which itself has been deemed a “clean coin” by the Tokens & Exchange Self-Regulating Body”. You can see the full post HERE
The second episode of the Digital Sovereignty Series has been released. This episode features Giselle Koy and Dylan Howard discussing the sovereign hero and it's potential for positive impact on the world. You can view the interview HERE
Maxine Ryan (COO and Co-founder of Bitspark – A remittance company migrating to the Bitshares network) has done an interview with Tai Zen and Leon Fu in relation to their upcoming ICO for Zephyr. This is a great interview that touches on Bitspark in general, reasons why they have chosen Bitshares as their underlying tech, upcoming expansions and the value of the Zephyr token. You can view the interview HERE
With the addition of MUSE and STEEM/SBD this week RuDEX now have gateways for all major Graphene based chains with 0% market fees, supported by blockchains themselves (via witness payments). RuDEX team announced that they plan to start working on something else frequently requested by the community, stay tuned and watch their @rudex account for English announcements. In turn they ask community members to vote for their @blockchained Steem witness.
@cm-steem has updated the price feeds for the HERTZ assets. Hertz is an Algorithm Based Asset (ABA) which is pegged against the USD and modified to oscillate between rising the price feed and decreasing it in a predictable manner, thus we create phases of buying and selling pressure constantly back and forth forever. You can find details of the project and the latest price scripts HERE
Coingate have announced the integration of Bitshares into their payment gateway service; allowing merchants to accept payments via Bitshares (BTS). You can view the announcement HERE
@virtualgrowth is doing a weekly market update and token give away; Check out his post and vote on your favourite asset HERE, if you leave you Bitshares username in the comment you may even be one of the lucky recipients of the token giveaway.
This week’s Bitshares hangout recording has been published and is available HERE
Current registered wallets/accounts within the Bitshares network is 424802; an increase of 8129 wallets/accounts since last week
The last asset registered this week is asset #2028 and it is named 'THEME' registered by 'yip' with no description. It seems Bitshares user 'yip' has been on an asset registering spree in the last week with over 85 assets registered by this account this week.

Thanks for the shout out @steempower!
I've just published my next dev steps regarding the hertz asset.
Contents of above post:
Update: Created HERTZ simulator & calculators
recapitulates known blockchain technologies and redefines state-of-the-art. ... code base that is used for the BitShares network and has nodes around the globe.
So much going on in this space. It is amazing.
I've created a simplified HERTZ intro post:
https://steemit.com/hertz/@cm-steem/what-is-the-hertz-algorithm-based-asset
I have been following bitshares for a while now, I bought few in April and holding on. Recently I came across a very informative article regarding transaction processing capacity of bitshares :
Few days ago Vitalik Buterin said : "Ethereum is doing five a second. Uber gives 12 rides a second. It will take a couple of years for the blockchain to replace Visa.”
Well, in December 2016, Visa told MyBroadband that VisaNet processes an average of 150 million transaction each day. Source. Say, it's around 1,700 transaction per second on average.
With the latest stress test, which was done 5 months ago, BitShares has proven to sustain successfully about 300 transaction per second on average,
with a peak of more than 3000 transaction per second, which beats PayPal and which is already like 8x to 15x of what Ethereum is able to handle today (there is different data available on how much Ethereum handles but it varies from 5 TPS to 20–40 TPS, and we count the greatest).
So why it is so undervalued despite it has a decentralized exchange!! I think little bit more effort in aggressive marketing campaigns will surely put them in the spot light. I am sure in the long term this project has a bright future.
Thanks for the comment @rizwan! good to see you have been doing your research.
I am also happy to tell you that the record setting block on the testnet stresstest was created by my witness :)
I think you are right in your conclusion; for a long time Bitshares did not do enough marketing and were just happy pushing the boundaries of the tech. Happy to see more marketing has started occurring now but it is also hard to compete with projects that raise millions of dollars from ICOs and their main focus is on marketing.
That being said Bitshares does have millions of dollars in its reserve pool which could be used for marketing.. we are getting better and their are some current marketing efforts that are gearing up or running at the moment.
Last week coingate integrated bitshares in their payment gateway . Contrary to some people, I believe that crypto currencies should not just be regarded as tokens or assets, but also should serve a purpose in making everyday payments. And in terms of huge transaction processing speed there is no match for bitshares at the moment and they should capitalized on that .
Shared on Twitter again for you guys. Keep up the good work.

Appreciate you sharing the love man :)
Thank you!!
I do not know everything I want to about the depth of the BTS community, but I know this:
I believe in Larimer, the products, and the community is hard working and the products are so versatile.
You are welcome and TY for the support on my end also.
Here's why I am buying Bitshares:
Bitspark moving millions of dollars of remittance volume to the Bitshares DEX
Bitshares is a TXSRB clean token
Bitshares is being used to create the STOKENS exchange for issuing and trading SEC-compliant tokens
The Billion HERO Campaign is bringing in huge marketing and media visibility to the Bitshares brand and technology
Bitshares will migrate to EOS when EOS launches
Bitshares is finally upgrading the exchange interface and fixing tons of bugs, they are spending over $150,000.00 USD in the next six months to upgrade the exchange to a world class interface
China is shutting down centralized exchanges; the US and other countries will follow soon. Decentralized exchanges are the future of trading crypto and Bitshares is the No. 1 DEX on the planet by any metric - transactions per second, scalability, security, volume, adoption, speed, number of assets, etc.
Bitshares has been running for over 3 years and has not been hacked
Trading fees are cheap
The community and developers are one of, if not, the best in the world!
Bitshares is my No. 1 crypto investment pick right now. Buying!
I highly doubt this will happen given how zero BSIPs have been proposed by EOS advocates - one cannot simply propose a merge without serious effort.
Stan Larimer, who is Dan Larimer's father, says BTS will migrate to EOS. Good enough for me...
thank you for sharing. makes my newbe ass feel like i might have gotten into a good one! i believe in bitshares!
Bitshares is a fickle mistress. You have been warned. :)
Is it weird if I only understand about 25% of the information in this post?
I mean, I try not to be a complete idiot, I've got a BTS wallet some bitshares as well, also have used WhaleShares a couple of times... But still... I'm really baffled at the info overload here. Oh well, I'll just have to dig a little deeper...
Any particular piece of information that I could help you to understand?
Thanks for trying to help us regular people out in understanding things. There are a lot of us.
LOL
Good work mate :) glad to see you ready to jump in and help out!
Not at all, there is a lot of data there that unless your tracking it and it means something too you (i.e your a witness, referrer, proxy ect) than just looking at it once off will not give you much context.
As a casual investor i would think the most valuable metrics would be the observations, smartcoin statistics and maybe the active markets and distributions.
Many thanks for your reply, that gives indeed the context I was looking for. Most re-assuring.
This is great for a breakdown for the masses -- ie all of us non tech people LOL.
I think once people understand the BitShares purpose and aspects : it will start growing in higher rates.
( " distributed multi-user database, permissions managed by a defined set of rules, asset management, Trustless transactions between parties, Freedom of payments, Counterfeiting impossible, Fraud resistant, No single point of failure, free to hold" )
2,031.65% growth this year so far. 3 more months to go.
I've "tried" to use Bitshares before but if I'm not mistaken, the exchange does not support any fiat currency. Rather, it's all in cryptocurrency... If so, what's the added benefits in using Bitshares as compared to exchange services like ShapeShift or Changelly?
Bitshares is so much more... but to start with:
Bitshares has fiat on and off ramps provided by OpenLedger (an exchange business based on the Bitshares network - previously CCEDK). OCASH will also launch soon allowing accounts to be connected to a debt card.
Bitshares also has similar services to Shapeshift and Changelly provided by Blocktrades. Blocktrades runs a independent business just like shapeshift but is also baked right into the wallet. They are also operating the gateways for most Altcoins allowing Alts to trade on the DEX.
Everything else that is Bitshares is cream on top
Plus heaps more - https://bitshares.org/technology/
What is the timeline or ETA for OCASH launch? Really that's the only missing piece for this d-exchange to take off.
Once again, an excellent information provided by you for all of us to know the true data of steemit platform.
Thank you for sharing!
