Bitshares - State of the Network - 30th May 2017
The Bitshares State of the Network Reports seeks to combine raw data from a wide range of metrics and combine them into meaningful information to identify emerging trends and changes in the Bitshares network.
Observation from this week
This section will highlight any observations made while analysing the data.
Bitshares Fee reduction has been proposed by the committee member and approved by the shareholders and has just gone live. All fees have been reduced by around 83%. Consider how powerful the feature that enables a group of elected leaders to propose changes and a shareholder vote to approve them; once the review period has completed and shareholder consensus approval is reached; a 'maintenance interval' is all that is required for the changes to go live on the network! maintenance intervals (currently set to 1 hour) as well as block size, block time, witnesses, committee members, amount of witnesses, reserve pool budget and many other variables are able to be updated dynamically by shareholder approval. no coding, no drama, we vote and the chain adapts.. That agility baked right into the protocol!. You can view a comparison of the fee's before and after HERE
'This summer' is HERE along with 53 Million dollars of support for the HERO and a 1 Billion dollar challenge to supporters. There is also talks of VR and AR applications, reality 'Shark Tank' style TV show that would allow the home view to be involved in funding projects via blockchain, a new CRS exchange and tokens and 200 hungry entrepreneurs that just got a first class introduction and consulting to the best blockchain tech in the business. I cannot do this 'movement' justice; a whole post could also only go so far, but i highly recommend you looking the vision of this event and the support behind it.
@abit has released a new Bitshares-core release (version 2.0.170531), The release contains security updates, improvements and bug fixes; including a whole range of new API calls as well as reduced RAM usage for witness nodes . You can find the latest release HERE
Witness pay reduction from 3 BTS to 1 BTS has been approved by the committee and submitted to the network. Bitshares Witnesses are now being paid 1 BTS per block.
@dantheman has released a whitepaper explaining the DPOS consensus algorithm backing the Graphene toolkit. You can find the post HERE
@stan has attended a conference in Hollywood last weekend, His 2nd talk has been uploaded to youtube and provides some interesting dynamics that are incoming for the Bitshares eco-system. you can view his HEROic talk HERE. In this weeks Bitshares Hangout, @kencode and @onceuponatime have revealed that Bitshares Stealth utilizing CA (Confidential Assets) is in active development and should be seeing this tech hit the testnet in the next couple of months. Big thanks to @onceuponatime who has taken it upon himself to fund the remaining development of Stealth and ensure Ken and the team have the runway required to finalise the project.

Openledger has partnered with Airbitz to use their edge security SDK to allow users on the Openledger platform to create an account utilizing the Airbitz account model, meaning that for OpenLedger users, there are no words to write down, no files to save, and no data to encrypt. It all happens automatically, magically. You can find out more about this upcoming feature HERE
@officialfuzzy is running a logo contest for the Whaleshares voting token with a grand prize of 2000 Whaleshares and plenty of runner up bounties. Get involved in the contest by following the spec in his recent post which can be found HERE
YOYOW have released a report regarding their crowd sale which has completely sold out in 3 days with the project raising 2000 BTC in the process. Wishing them all the best success for their platform and i personally can't wait to see another Graphene chain develop and flourish. They are looking to launch their main-net before October. You can find the original post HERE
@cm-steem has proposed an idea for a radical new type of Formula Backed Asset (FBA) on the Bitshares network dubbed 'Hertz'. Hertz is a Formula Based Asset (FBA) which is pegged against the [USD|XDR|***(poll running at the moment)] and modified to oscillate between rising the price feed and decreasing it in a predictable manner, thus we create phases of buying and selling pressure constantly back and forth forever. You can find out more about his proposal HERE, He is also running a poll to determine the best base currency to peg the value too; you can cast your vote and get in on the discussion HERE
@btswolf has created a new info-graphic titled 'Bitshares - Basic connection layer'. This info-graphic is explaining the different Bitshares components and how they all connect in the bigger picture. You can find this info-graphic and others he has created HERE
