Bitshares - State of the Network - 4th July 2017

The Bitshares State of the Network Reports seeks to combine raw data from a wide range of metrics and combine them into meaningful information to identify emerging trends and changes in the Bitshares network.

Observation from this week

This section will highlight any observations made while analysing the data.

  • @stan has released another chapter in the 'Origin of Bitshares' series, This chapter brings us up to date with the release of the Billion Hero Challenge on Independence day; 4th of July 2017. The post also goes on to discuss the goals of the challenge and includes announcements regarding the prize money being locked away as collateral. You can find the latest release in this series HERE

  • @stan has announced on June 10, 2017 the Hero Foundation set aside $1M worth of BitShares (3 Million BTS) at that 33.3 cents per BTS and today those fund have been locked away to be used as collateral in the Billion Hero Challenge. This 3 Million BTS also serves to be the prize money at the end of the Challenge. On successful completion of the Challenge the value of this prize money would have grown 1000x to 1 Billion USD; hence the name 'Billion Hero Challenge'. You can get more details of the prize money and the challenge HERE

  • OXarbitrage (Alfredo) has created an updated worker proposal for core development of the Bitshares Network. This new worker proposal is using the multisig worker mechanism as first created and used by @xeroc (described HERE). You can see the full details of Alfredo's worker proposal HERE

  • @cm-steem has updated his BSIP-019 - 'profit sharing / dividends for Market Pegged Assets (MPA)' and also drafted BSIP-020 - 'profit sharing / dividends for User Issed Assets (UIA)

  • @cm-steem has created a Bitshares-UI Customization Guide which describes methods of creating a customized User Interface for the Bitshares Network - This is a full length post packed with great detail for anyone looking to launch their own front end. Please see full details of this post HERE

  • PoloniEX has a banner suggesting their is issues with the network at the moment despite all other exchanges and the network itself operating fine. There has been no official word from Poloniex (that i am aware of) in regards to the 'issues' that they are having but it has been observed this week that their hot wallet was completely emptied of all funds resulting in delays for users trying to withdraw. Their hot wallet is holding ~ 8 Million BTS at the time of writing but this is still very low for an exchange of their size. The downtrend in their hot wallet holdings came as no surprise (seeing BTS funds flow over to Chinese exchanges) so the fact that they did not withdraw from their cold wallet raises some questions... You can keep an eye on their wallet HERE

  • @fav has released the June statistics for the Bitshares subreddit from reddit.com. The traffic statistics show a massive spike of roughly 500% in traffic for June M/M. You can see the full stats HERE

  • @kencode has released his weekly report with plenty of updates from the team at Bitshares Munich; including Graphenej, C-IPFS, Blockpay, Stealth and Smartcoin Wallet. You can find his report HERE

  • @full-steem-ahead (Verbaltech2) has posted his monthly Bitshares witness update, celebrating his rise to pole position on the witness list; achieving the highest number of shareholder approval votes!. He also goes into details regarding his nodes performance and the upcoming introduction of a 32GB dedicated node for the Bitshares testnet. Find out more HERE

  • @jademont has created some Bitshares tests / exams. Test your knowledge of the Bitshares network by taking part in the Basic and Intermediate level Bitshares tests.

  • @onceuponatime has pledged to donate $25,000 USD worth of Bitshares, BitUSD, Hero, Steem and Steem Backed Dollars to participants in the 'Gerania Vertical Kilometer Trail Race'. Prizes go to the three best times and all finishers who stay the course. This race is 5.8km of uphil trail finishing at 1,000m altitude. Anyone who can finish this monster effort now has a stash of crypto to compliment their accomplishment. To see further details of very generous giveaway from @onceuponatime you can see his announcement HERE

  • @legendx has created a Chinese translation of the Graphene DPOS whitepaper as previously released by Daniel Larimer. You can find the Chinese version of the DPOS Whitepaper HERE

  • Thanks to @blockchained who has been translating the Bitshares State of the Network report into Russian and also to @btsabc who last week translated the report into Chinese. Please find the reports in Russian and Chinese.

  • OpenLedger has preformed thier monthly OBITS buy back and burn operation. This month $1,500,000 USD was used to buy back OBITS from the open market resulting in final price of 12.99 BTS per OBITS. A total of 5,864,799 BTS were used to buy back 451,190 OBITS. For full break down and further details please see their announcement HERE

  • Ronny Boesing (CEO of OpenLedger) has announced an upcoming ICO for OCASH with a 5% sharedrop of OBITS holders. OCASH brings the international card payments system to the OpenLedger network, allowing token holders to use Stablecoins (SmartCoins) including bitUSD, bitEUR, bitGBP, and Rubles - plus other OpenLedger tokens such as OBITS, BTC, and ETH - to purchase items anywhere that accept international payment cards. For more information please see the announcement HERE

  • @ash has made a post regarding a managed investment fund running on the Bitshares network with a customised UI. The fund is Satoshi.fund and from his post it looks like they have a very nice an clean interface. I will do some more research on this fund and present some more information next week but for now you can see @ash's post to get some insight on the platform HERE

  • @cob has released a Muse update in relation to their testnet launch, future roadmap and guidance to claim Muse aka NOTEs from the old chain. The new Muse blockchain will be a separate chain to their current chain, there will be a sharedrop date announced and keys will need to be imported into the new chain. They have also advised that Open.Muse being held on the Bitshares network will need to be transferred to the Muse chain before the snapshot occurs. Make sure you read the official announcement and prepare for the launch of the new chain this summer. Announcement can be found HERE

  • @robrigo has put out a warning to anyone who had PPY share-dropped on their BTS accounts (account on the Peerplays blockchain prefixed with 'bts-'). These accounts lack a memo key which is causing problems when depositing your PPY to an exchange as the memos are not properly included in the transactions (memos are used as unique identifiers when using exchange accounts on Graphene). This is resulting in users having to submit support tickets to retrieve their balances at the exchange end. See his full post HERE

  • Cointelegraph has covered the Crypviser exit from Ethereum and migration to Bitshares network. Crypviser is building an encrypted network for social and business communication based on Blockchain. The Crypviser team based their decision to move due to scale-ability concerns for their real time platform after the Ethereum network is seeing congestion during ICO's in the last few weeks. They have also released a blog post yesterday guiding ICO investors how to sign up for a Bitshares account and update their crypvisor ICO profile ready for the distribution of CVCoin on the 7th of July. You can see the Cointelegraph article HERE and Crypviser investors can find the guide for to create and account and get ready for the distribution HERE

  • eDev.one integrates Blockchain Technology and this gives a strong protection to both clients and freelancers. eDev.one is a project integrated with OpenLedger and this week it has been featured in an article on maxkeiser.com. The platform is launching next month and their will be upcoming opportunities for investors to back the project. You can see the article HERE or see their official website HERE

  • Decent has launched their Network which is operating on a Graphene based platform; at this time i have no knowledge of any connections to Bitshares or other Graphene projects but it is great to see other platforms using the technology to the benefit of all existing and future Graphene based chains. The Decent Network is a content distribution platform that is decentralized, open-source and uses Blockchain technology.

  • @virtualgrowth is doing a weekly market update and token give away; Check out his post and vote on your favorite asset HERE, if you leave you Bitshares username in the comment you may even be one of the lucky recipients of the token giveaway.

  • This weeks Bitshares hangout recording has been published and is available HERE

Great work @steempower and thanks for the shout out regarding my BSIP's 19 & 20 and my Bitshares UI customization guide. These weekly reports are massively beneficial to the Bitshares community!

you are doing some awesome work @cm-steem! Really appreciate your efforts and thank you for your kind words :)

Well said my friend

Quick update: I've created an additional BSIP regarding "Introducing the 'Coin-Age' statistic to Bitshares assets" - Any/All input would be massively appreciated! Thanks :)

HERO contest starts.... BTS price tanks. Sounds about right for crypto. Thanks for your updates, they are awesome!

BTS price tanks means ?

He means that the price has decreased.

thanks man ;)

Only make sense from a MM point of view. Have to wash the people who have been asking daily 'when's the pump' out of their holdings before moving forward; most of them had thoughts of 4th of July explosion.

Seems hero is about to give a major kick on this crypto. probably the price will be trippled by the end of this month.

No doubt! For each hero token, there is 200-300% backing Bitshares collateral removed from liquid supply.

I am excited to see the marketing firm engage and roll out their master plan.

btw i haven't forgotten about emailing you regarding UI/UX for Bitshares; apologies for the delay

Hi @steempower,

I know it's difficult to answer several questions so do not worry about the delay, and thanks for reminding me, after what you told me the other day, I decided to start writing about UX and Design in general here in the community, I'd be happy to have Your feedback.

Hey guys, i was using bitshares to buy steem, but I can't withdraw them. Open.Steem doesn't appear on the openledger gateway. What do i do?
Can anyone tell me how to withdraw steem on bitshares?

Hi @solar,

Not sure what is happening their, i have sent a message to Ronny to see if he can share any insight but i recommended you also send and email to [email protected]

Sure they will have it back up shortly

Thanks for sending the message to Ronny. Yeah I contacted support yesterday and have received no response, so I am asking around. Also made this post in the steem-help and bitshares tags.

can i trade steem for gold on bitshares ? looks good to me - i will go in and check it all out

Sure, you can buy BitGold or BitSilver, but looks like the Steem gateway service from OpenLedger is down at the moment so you might need to wait a day to two before jumping in

Great post man. This is a really good way to keep up to date with Bitshares as well with lots of helpful links. :)

Thanks mate, appreciate the comment and support :)

Very uplifting as usual. The poloniex situation seems stranger and stranger as time goes by.

Indeed, Poloniex is increasingly demonstrating their incompetence. If they have lost access to their cold storage then they are operating a fractional reserve much like mtgox did prior to its collapse! If this is indeed the case, there should be no intervention - they should live with their losses; decentralized exchanges should not bail out centralized exchanges!

they have a massive amount of supply locked up...

Yep, something in the range of 300m BTS.

Thanks @steempower for sharing the updates of great decentralize exchange platform and i am very glad to see the bullish trend back for the price of Bitshares.

Thanks man :) appreciate it

Thanks for this very informative report. Its very helpful to the community and noobs like myself that are still learning about bitshares.

Glad to hear its helping, don't forget those videos from Chronos Crypto, lots of good info in there :)

Thanks for the info on Chronos Crypto. I will check it out. Don't know anyone much yet. Tried to watch as many videos as I could on YouTube about the site but many were outdated. Thanks for the help :) Question where do I find the videos on Chronos Crypto? Are they under your blogs?

That's a lot of information to handle. Best thing to look for is the amount of action going on in the BitShares space. If people can use BitShares increasingly to solve real word problems, value of BitShares is growing. The price can follow later.

There is lots of data for sure. i think it is great to see business and projects adopting Bitshares and Graphene tech.
