The smartest guard pull

in #bjj6 years ago (edited)

Pro MMA fighter and Grappler Anthony McGlynn shows the smartest way to pull guard.

To be quite honest when I set out to film what Anthony was going to show me I had no idea what he was going to show. I had hoped it would be some kind of interesting sweep or Submission but this works to, I am always for some levity. Enjoy guys.

This was a joke but being that this gym is from Pennsylvania, we have a lot of wrestlers on the mats as as such we have adopted an environment where we rarely pull guard. While I myself have never pulled guard in competition I do not frown upon it and I am opened to doing so if I see fit. I see it as a good strategy, especially in the modern BJJ competition scene where all of the top guys pull guard and sweep for the win. However my game is top heavy, likely because I started training in MMA before going to a separate BJJ gym. What ever your poison, I hope you can enjoy the joke for what it is, thanks for watching guys.

Is this something you do alot, I mean this type of video because it looks like it could go viral on just big on youtube?

@janton, I am glad you enjoyed the video, normally I do technique videos, fight play by play, and fighter interviews then I also do Crypto analysis as well. If this goes viral that would be great! But this is not normal for me, thanks for commenting!

Wow martial art is quite dope. It teaches you balancing, how to be alert. My children must learn this sport

@trojan4, that is a great idea it changes lives. Make sure you find a legit academy. :)

Yeah that's true. The right academy will impact more than just fighting skills

So much hate for guard pullers! lol

We just got 3 new white belts that have all wrestled for at least 5 years each, and we're in central Ohio, so yeah. Took 'em a few weeks to get wise to that cross collar choke though ;)

I don't hate on them and I really did not know that they were going to do that in this video, but meh, why not lol.
Ohio has some serious wrestling schools! Yeah Wrestlers always lead with their heads exposing their necks, ;) but they are very trainable and learn quick.

Hey @embomb701 thank you for the video, was interesting to see what tricks you can use in such sutuation, I believe it is good in general to be in a good form, I see those guys have training and even tehm are quite sweaty most probably after active training. I remember being younger and also trying to figure out what is the best sport especially for self-protection and being fit. I think if you are good in any of such sports that is good enough. Thank youfor sharing the post,

Thank you so much for taking the time to view our content and to comment. Yes we had all just finished training, I myself and 35 and many of the people who train are well into their 40s. I believe as you said that being well trained in many of the available martial arts would serve well in a self defense situation, however the Ultimate Fighting Championship proved that Grappling, specifically Brazilian Jiu Jitsu rains supreme in the most important martial arts for wining an actual fight. Personally I rank Martial Arts in this order of importance

  1. BJJ
  2. Wrestling
  3. Kickboxing/Muay Thai
  4. Boxing
  5. All of the other Striking martial arts like Karate, TKD, Kempo, etc.
The really great thing about wrestling and BJJ is that a bad guy can be stopped and held for the police without hurting them, because as many know even in a self defense situation these says, the defender unfortunately often is sued by the attacker afterwards.

Okay you got me LOL It started off like any old tutorial video and then when he started talking about freeing up his hand so he could reach inside his own gi... I was thinking WTF and then bam, I am cracking up still, so much hate for the guard pullers

LOL, they got me to, I thought he was going to show us something good. LOL

Haha -👍 great i made in the past times many taekwondo trainings , so cool video to remember me back in times, when we had fighted in had fun in the dojo. The laughter from the other guy at the end was awesome :-D
