Review of week 38–40

The last two weeks have been very crucial and important for the upcoming closed beta mainnet launch. Exciting HERO times are coming!

Know your heroes

One of the highest prioritized focuses of the current beta wave number three is our KYC process. After the successful implementation of jumio as KYC provider, our beta users, who by the way are meanwhile over 200, have tested and tried to break the process. We can proudly state that everything went very smooth. Reported bugs mostly consisted of short term bans due to multiple and continuous invalid data input. Submitting false/ invalid personal data is handled correctly, as well as on our side, as on jumios side. Besides being serious bug hunters, our beta users tend to show their funny side. It is our honor to reveal the true face of Tihomir Squarepants. He did not complete the KYC process.

Tihomir Squarepants, Bikini Bottom beta tester

Talking about Tihomir, one of our most active beta members and a true HERO supporter, found a way to join a beta contest without giving herosphere.gg an allowance. At the current state we provide maximum user experience by handling the buy-in transactions AND taking over the transaction cost for the user. In order to be able to do so, every user gives herosphere.gg an allowance to move funds from his herosphere.gg wallet to a contest contract. Tihomir Squarepants found a way around this through our API. Consequently, he found himself in an open contest, without having carried out a buy-in transaction. The system did not allow him to win anything because shortly before the contest closed he was kicked out. But we need to avoid already step one. Now we correctly check this matter in the back- and front-end in the beginning and not only before closing a contest.

Transaction costs

Another very important and present topic for us are still transaction costs. Although we are progressing in a very rapid way, we are still not quite where we want to be. We have been testing multiple possible solutions, achieving different success. Nevertheless, we were able to bring down costs in an efficient way, our development team will continue looking into this topic seeking for perfection. Bringing down transaction costs is essential for the platform efficiency, especially by keeping in mind what herosphere.gg handles for the users.

The wallet experience

A minor front-end bug was fixed, which occurred after the wallet creation process. After having ETH & PLAY on your wallet, the balance was incorrectly visualized for some users. Although they had funds, they wallet balance was depicted as zero. We have now added an indicator to show that the balance update is in progress while we wait for the blockchain confirmation and update the balance in real time. Additionally, a wallet view for the front-end is set up, allowing users to have a clear overview of their transactions and transfers. This is a very important step towards better user experience, allowing users to clearly follow their wallet transactions with a built in link to etherscan for transparency and validation.

Future design implementations

Our lead designer Gabriel created an UI kit for every front-end related task, ensuring that the whole dev team will have an easier life in the future. This style guide is a convenient tool for future design implementations on herosphere.gg, especially since our major design update is close by. At this point we want to thank everyone who provided feedback to our prototypes. Every single input has been reviewed and a lot of cool ideas have been implemented already.
Besides that, minor bugs which were reported by our beta testers were fixed.
