The Future of Social Media
Imagine owning all your social media data that you've created over the years and being able to interact with it on whatever platform you decide.
A single entity will lose the ability to ban or silence you in any way. Instead, moderation and filters will be curated and used by different users and communities to help you follow and find information to your liking.
The data lives everywhere and nowhere at the same time while you control what is private and public with your encryption key.
Built in profit sharing will offer more ways to monetize your content without major corporations eating up all the revenue for work that you've contributed to their network.
This is one of the many usecases of blockchain. Centralized services like Facebook and Twitter will over time become obsolete unless they adopt a more user friendly decentralized model.
I do like the idea of this. People that contribute content should expect to get paid. Only since the days of the internet has content been devalued. It is nice that on steemit, that some people that have brought their popularity with them from other social media or were a first user of steemit and managed to get a following are getting paid. They do have the right concept in mind. I would be nice however if the playing field were a little more even and even newbies stood a fighting chance. Don't get me wrong. I love steemit. I like it because it gives me a place to express myself. I have however given up on it ever being a viable source of income. Perhaps someday I will eat these words. That my friend, will be a meal I will enjoy!
