The existing problem in the gaming industry

It is not visible to its players, but the gaming industry as a whole is a centralised field. Unfortunately, in most cases, the ones receiving the credits are not the game developers, nor the gaming community, but the platforms which deliver the game. Tim Sweeney, the founder of EPIC games, an American video game and software corporation, states that the game market is quite unfair since most of the profit goes towards intermediaries like app stores and social networks. These middlemen of our days in the field are more commonly known as Apple, Google or Steam.

For example, Steam – the digital distribution platform offering multiplayer gaming, video streaming, social networking and more – includes thousands of games online, with more games released in 2016 than all the games published between 2006 to 2014. Although it has a massive success, developers believe that to stay relevant, they are forced to pay large amounts of money on advertising their games. Moreover, they do not agree with this store's substantial 30% revenue share and the desire for control over their user-base. This means that most of the revenue produced is taken away by publishing houses while creators remain faded. Sounds unfair, right?
