Being a blogger the biggest mistake you could ever do is focus merely on ranking.
I am not saying don't focus on ranking, but just focusing on one aspect isn't good for long term business.
Let's face it, rankings never remain the same, they keep on dropping, if you are at 1st position today, there are many haters and competitior's out there ready to beat you, and they won't hesitate using $$$.
So what should you do instead?
Focus on building readership, focus on having consistent visitors which will turn into your customers, having less traffic but readers those who love you and trust you is far better than having thousands of traffic which just click on to your site, don't find it much interesting and instantly click on to another wesbite's link.
You can't possibly make everyone happy,but you can certainly make a group of people (your target audience) happy, turn them into your potential customers.
Now if you want to make everyone happy then there's something wrong with your approach, every blog tends to target a specific audience, a marketing blog wouldn't want to target housewives and vice versa.
